Fleet Mechanic I - Light Equipment

Under direction maintains repairs and overhauls light and medium trucks automobiles and other mechanical equipment; performs related duties as required.

Class Characteristics

This is a journey level classification in the Citys fleet mechanic series reporting to the Fleet Mechanic II. It is characterized by the primary responsibility to work on all automotive vehicles light and medium duty trucks and related equipment that includes but is not limited to emergency generators small construction equipment bituminous machine trailers arrow board trailers message board trailers gas diesel and electric driven carts landscape trucks paint sprayer trucks pressure washer trailers. Assignments objectives and work steps are set and established work processes are to be followed; work review is occasional during progress or upon completion of assignment. It is distinguished from Fleet Mechanic I Heavy Equipment by the latters primary responsibility to maintain repair and overhaul large heavy duty vehicles and equipment. The Fleet Mechanic I-Light Equipment is differentiated from the Mechanic Assistant position by the formers additional primary responsibility to perform major service and repairs.

• A State of California License to certify lights and brakes is highly desirable.
• Possession of a California Smog License is highly desirable.
