North Greenville University is a teaching university of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a tobacco and alcohol-free campus. All NGU professors are expected to be orthodox Christians who have a strong personal faith are role models in their piety and ethics are regularly reflecting upon how their faith influences their discipline and are willing and able to mentor students in their own relationship with Jesus Christ. Faculty are expected to:

  • Teach in accordance with and not contrary to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
  • Teach in accordance with and not contrary to the universitys Statement on Human Flourishing.
  • Abide by the employee and faculty handbooks including community standard agreements.

Candidates must have a Christian commitment and the ability to integrate the Christian faith with traditional coursework. Applicants should have a background and/or professional experience in elementary music instruction.

Position Summary: The Cline School of Music at North Greenville University is seeking a Percussion Assistant for the Marching Band.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as Percussion Instructor for the NGU Marching Band
  • Prepare for course(s) by organizing and becoming familiar with student material
  • Prepare lesson plans and course material as required
  • Effectively organize and present subject matter to students
  • Objectively assess students for academic performance
  • Ensure security of assessment tools and confidential documentation
  • Appropriately maintain student records grades and attendance as needed to ensure accuracy
  • Meet all university deadlines for syllabi and grade submission

Physical Requirements

  • Hearing: Hear well enough to conduct rehearsals
  • Dexterity: Ability to demonstrate technique for students
  • Mobility: Teach class move between departments and attend meetings across campus if required
  • Talking: Provide group and individual instruction.
  • Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to critically think and concentrate.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This position is a part-time position in the Cline School of Music and reports first to the director of athletic bands and then to the Associate Dean of the School.

WORK SCHEDULE

The adjunct work schedule is flexible and can be scheduled to limit the trips to and from campus. Generally there are 2 weeks of pre-season rehearsals followed by regular evening rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the end of the football season. Other rehearsals and performances may be required through the end of the semester.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Music with a percussion emphasis preferred.
  • Background and/or professional experience in marching band percussion.
  • Preference will be given to applicants holding a terminal degree
  • Experience and a passion for teaching
  • Evidence of scholarly potential
  • Supports NGUs mission statement and core values commitment to a Christian lifestyle and character in keeping with biblical model
