Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor operate a vehicle to pick up and deliver furniture and equipment to various school sites to meet the needs of District students and personnel; move and arrange furniture and equipment as directed.

Examples of Duties

Operate a vehicle to pick up and deliver furniture and equipment to various school sites to meet the needs of District students and personnel; load and unload trailers; pick-up donated materials from various locations.

Move and arrange risers athletic equipment large appliances ladders water heaters computers boxes file cabinets desks machines and a variety of other large/heavy furniture and equipment as directed.

Assist tradespersons with performing duties as assigned; assist electricians and computer technicians with moving furniture and equipment as requested.

Operate a variety of tools and equipment used in moving furniture and equipment including jacks dollies carts lifts and a variety of hand and power tools.

Communicate with District personnel and outside agencies to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns related to furniture equipment repairs deliveries and assigned activities.

Receive process and complete work orders as assigned.

Assemble and make minor repairs on furniture and equipment as assigned; assure equipment is in proper working condition.

Maintain routine records related to work orders and assigned activities.

Perform warehouse duties as directed.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Methods and practices used in receiving storing disbursing and delivering supplies and equipment.
Operation and use of hand and power tools and equipment.
Proper loading and unloading of trucks.
Proper lifting techniques.
Legal and defensive driving practices.
Basic record-keeping techniques.

ABILITY TO:
Operate a vehicle to pick up and deliver furniture and equipment to various school sites to meet the needs of District students and personnel.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment as directed.
Operate tools and equipment used in moving furniture and equipment.
Perform heavy physical labor.
Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
Work cooperatively with others.
Be flexible to perform work within changing priorities and possess sufficient interpersonal skill to work harmoniously with staff students administrators parents and others.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Maintain routine records.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California Class C drivers license and a safe driving record.
Incumbent will be involved in field work which requires travel to various sites.

Examination Information

Exams are required for ALL applicants. If your application is selected to move forward in the recruitment the exam dates are:

Qualifying Exam: (REQUIRED FOR ALL QUALIFIED APPLICANTS)

August:00 a.m.


It is highly recommended that you plan your calendar accordingly. No make-up dates will be offered.

Please note: The qualifying pass point on written examinations may be an actual score or an adjusted score based on the difficulty of the examination the quality of the competition and the needs of the service.

Substitute work on-call as needed. If you are interested in a permanent position please reapply during a permanent recrutiment.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The duration of the eligibility list is 6 months unless extended by the Executive Director of Classified Human Resources and the Personnel Commission.

Applicants selected for permanent or substitute assignments are required to pay for fingerprinting services and obtain Tuberculosis results prior to beginning work. If you have any questions regarding the fees please feel free to contact the Human Resources Department at .

Hayward Unified School District will provide a contribution of up to $2500 per year to be used towards a District healthcare plan or cash in lieu of up to $1350 per year. Full-time employees are required to purchase medical health benefits unless proof of alternate coverage is provided. Half-time and less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The balance of health benefit costs are paid through a pre-tax payroll deduction.

Dental coverage is provided free of charge for all employees working 20 hours per week or more. Family coverage is available and any additional premium will be employee paid.
Classified employees must participate in the CalPERS Retirement program.
All employees are enrolled in an Employee Assistant Program (EAP).
The District also offers various optional benefits including life insurance short term disability and a medical and dependent care flexible spending option.
