POSITION Overview and Responsibilities:

This is a specialized professional position working in research education development and implementation of resource management visitor services and interpretive programs and projects for Forest Capital Museum State Park.

Plans organizes ad conducts community outreach activities special events and festivals to expand public understanding of the Florida Park Service and the parks management objectives. Represents the park and Florida Park Service to outside agencies and organizations disseminating information and promoting all opportunities provided by the park. Provides research designs and develops park specific literature for public dissemination. Research develop and conduct environmental education programs interpretive programs and special events. Serves on the park interpretive panel responsible for establishing park programs to increase visitor access. Explains facilities and services provided for public use enjoyment and education; meet visitors answers questions provide information and directions.

Position will handle administrative duties for Forest Capital Museum State Park Lafayette Blue Springs State Park Troy Spring State Park Peacock Springs State Park and the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail. Will reform all administrative duties including but not limited to; bill payment budget tracking and reconciliation purchasing and procurement record keeping and filling.

Research collects data and prepares forms for reports on a wide range of subjects. Analyzes budget needs oversees and performs purchasing and fiscal activities in compliance with established Division procedures to ensure the operational needs of the park are met. Plans and conducts volunteer meetings volunteer orientation and training sessions.

Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

Knowledge of: Administrative principles and practices; 19th Century Cracker Homesteads; antique farm equipment & furniture preservation; implementing and maintaining a vegetable garden Floridas forest industry; best management practices to include all aspects of safety and personal protection equipment and effective vebal and written communication.

Ability to: Conduct routine inspections; identify and investigate problems; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; plan and oversee schedules; develop and organize data into logical format for presentation in reports proposals and other written documents; understand and apply applicable rules regulations policies and procedures; analyze plan and perform facility and equipment maintenance as outlines in division operations manual; accurately file paperwork invoices financial reports and work independently.

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with Directive 422 Position of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

The importance of forestry in Florida dates back to the early 1800s. The museum celebrates that heritage.

The heart of the museum is dedicated to longleaf pines and the 5000 products manufactured from them. The 50-plus-year-old longleaf pines growing on the museum grounds provide a majestic canopy and create an enjoyable walking trail for visitors.

Upon exiting themuseum visitors take a step back in time to explore an authentic 19th-century cracker homestead much like those scattered throughout Florida at the turn of the century.

Rangers lead interpretive tours during special events and upon request.
