A premier food company with customers nationwide is seeking an experienced Buyer for their fresh produce needs for their upper Midwest region locations.
Position Summary
The Buyer for Fresh Produce is responsible for sourcing and procuring a complete supply of high-quality fruits and vegetables. This role requires collaboration with local & regional suppliers shippers and internal departments to ensure product quality competitive pricing and inventory management that supports member success and profitability.
Responsibilities
Develop a network of local & regional suppliers F.O.B. Free on Board growers and shippers to ensure a consistent supply of premium produce at competitive prices.
Partner with the QA team to ensure only the highest quality produce is received and shipped.
Identify and capitalize on special purchasing opportunities suitable for volume merchandising and direct delivery systems.
Participate in weekly calls to develop a produce bulletin and keep departments informed.
Manage inventory levels to ensure freshness availability and optimal service levels.
Provide timely updates to the Produce Merchandising Department regarding new discontinued and special-buy items.
Regularly communicate market conditions and changes to the Sales Manager for local suppliers.
Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure cooperative and productive working relationships.
Maintain accurate and timely records and reports as required by management.
Stay current with technology and demonstrate strong communication and computer skills.
Requirements
Minimum of 3 years of Buyer experience in fresh grocery produce.
Retail grocery store or grocery wholesale background preferred.
Degree not required; equivalent work experience accepted.
Proven ability to manage inventory supplier relationships and market trends.
Strong communication technology and organizational skills.
Commitment to delivering excellent customer service and contributing to department growth and profitability.
Must be able to work onsite at one of their Midwest office locations and be open to relocation (if necessary) with relocation costs covered by the employer.
Must be currently authorized to work here in the USA without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future.
