Role: Digital Developer & Content Producer

Department: Corporate Comms

Contract Type: Permanent

In this role you will develop the content framework and infrastructure of South Yorkshire Polices online presence including intranet smartphone apps websites and other relevant platforms.

Key responsibilities:

  • To develop and enhance the forces digital presence including intranet smartphone apps websites and other relevant platforms.
  • To work autonomously and with communications officers to source content author original material edit amend or modify the existing material and upload to digital platforms.
  • To identify develop support and promote a range of services to assist SYP in providing a better digital service.
  • To review and refresh SYPs online sites and platforms ensuring pages are current legal and adhere to editorial policy and corporate style.
  • Design develop and provide ongoing support applications for tablets and smartphones (iOS and Android etc.) to enhance access to services.
  • To maintain contributions to the SYP intranet and internet sites and assist in developing new ways of presenting digital content to enhance overall digital services including converting video and audio to web standards.
  • To provide regular site redesigns and consistency guidelines to keep the presentation and content of platforms up to date accurate and current.
  • To produce and assist in the evaluation of analytics across all digital platforms for identifying areas of improvement and to measure the impact of campaigns.
  • To advise and assist in providing training and support in relation to the use of digital services both in person and the development of online packages.
  • To provide assistance where required within the Corporate Communications team in monitoring online platforms.
  • To visit other areas of the force to identify areas that could benefit from digital developments.
  • To develop facilities for easy site maintenance and future updates that will future proof digital systems.
  • To provide technical support to other areas of the force where required and to identify issues that may arise liaising with IS to provide a solution.
  • To identify research and evaluate new development opportunities and keep up with advances in online technologies and techniques to assess its relevance and possible use to support the forces digital development.

Skills and experience:

  • A creative and innovative approach to use of digital services as communication and engagement tools.
  • Experience of implementing using and managing Content Management Software.
  • Experience of developing web based layouts presentations and solutions.
  • Experience of developing for popular tablet and smartphone devices (e.g. iOS and Android OS) to latest web standards and for multiple browsers (desktop and mobile).
  • Proven experience in providing digital content for online platforms including publishing documents onto Intranet sites or the Internet.
  • High degree of computer literacy and experience of working with SharePoint sites and Microsoft 365.
  • Awareness of how digital communication can be used to achieve policing objectives.
  • Knowledge of social media as an engagement tool.
