The Opportunity
This position is a onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier happier lives. As a global leader in diabetes care Abbott is constantly working to deliver the highest quality products and unwavering support to our customers. Consistent and accurate glucose monitoring is the foundation of any diabetes management plan so were committed to continuous improvement in the way patients and professionals measure track and analyze glucose levels.
As a Manufacturing Process Engineer you will work under limited supervision. Applies subject matter knowledge in the area of Pharmaceutical/Biological Process. Requires capacity to apply skills/knowledge within the context of specific needs or requirements. Provide support to the Manufacturing organization to facilitate efficient operations within the production area to optimize existing processes and to ensure that production goals are met. Monitor performance of equipment machines and tools and corrects equipment problems or process parameters that produce non-conforming products low yields or product quality issues. Interface with Quality and Research and Development organizations to integrate new products or processes into the existing manufacturing area. This is an onsite opportunity in Austin TX.
What Youll Do
- Initiates and completes technical activities leading to new or improved products or process for current programs next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company.
- Prepares reports publishes and makes presentations to communicate findings.
- Analyzes and solves problems from basic engineering principles theories and concepts through to a wide range of complex and advanced problems which require novel and new innovative approaches or a major breakthrough in technology.
- Understands engineering principles theories concepts practices and techniques. Develops knowledge in a field to become a recognized leader or authority in an area of specialization and applies this knowledge in leadership roles in the company.
- Incorporates business policies and procedures into task completion.
- Understands the business needs of the company and has knowledge of the customer needs of our business.
- Understands the business cycle and foresight of emerging technologies trends.
- Cultivates internal and external network of resources to complete tasks.
- Serves has a resource in the selection orientation and training of new engineers and employees.
- May lead a project team determining goals and objectives for the projects.
- Interacts cross functionally and with internal and external customers.
- Serves as a consultant for engineering or scientific interpretations and advice on significant matters.
- Acts as a spokesperson to customers on business unit current and future capabilities.
- Cultivates a wide range of internal networks and begins to develop an extensive external network of resources to facilitate completion of tasks.
- May lead a project team of moderate scope. Provides guidance to less experienced staff.
- Influence exerted at peer level and occasionally at first levels of management.
- Plans organizes and prioritizes own daily work routine to meet established schedule.
- Exercises authority and judgment within defined limits to determine appropriate action.
- Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays in program schedules and may result in the allocation of additional resources.
Experience Youll Bring
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Chemical or any engineering or technical degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum 3 years of Manufacturing engineering experience.
- Medical device experience required. International manufacturing experience preferred.
- Strong analytical problem solving and project management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership capability in team settings. Six Sigma certification preferred.
- Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
- Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced changing environment.
- Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
- Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
- Multitasks prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills as well as attention to detail.
Preferred
- Minimum 4 years of Industrial experience.
- Exposure to manufacturing processes as it applies to multi-component assembly operations.
- Exposure to supplied material manufactured from external suppliers. Experience troubleshooting such processes to find solutions related to productivity quality and product performance.
- Exposure to Six Sigma Green Belt techniques with the DMAIC process to find/implement root cause remediations.
- Regulated industry experience to document all actions involving changes to established processes.
