POSITION OVERVIEW:

Lake Area Technical College is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable individual to join our Agriculture faculty as a Livestock Instructor. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in livestock production animal health nutrition genetics reproduction facility management and related areas to prepare students for careers in the livestock industry.

The successful candidate will bring a passion for agriculture strong industry experience and a student-centered approach to teaching. The instructor will contribute to curriculum development hands-on training industry partnerships and continuous improvement of the agriculture program.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or Bachelors Degree in Animal Science Agriculture or related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in livestock production or a related agricultural field.
  • Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and with diverse student populations.
  • Proficient in technology used in instruction livestock data management or precision agriculture
  • Postsecondary teaching or training experience a plus.
  • Experience with multiple species and/or diversified livestock operations.
  • Familiarity with agriculture industry standards biosecurity and regulatory compliance.
  • CDL or willingness to obtain (for transporting animals or equipment as needed)
  • Instructional settings will include classroom laboratory and field-based environments.
  • May require work outdoors and travel to off-site locations including livestock operations farms and industry partners.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and handle livestock safely.
  • Other duties as assigned.


REPORTS TO:Ag Department Supervisor Dean of Academics Vice President


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction in livestock production and management including:

Animal science nutrition genetics and reproduction

Livestock health and disease prevention

Beef swine sheep dairy production systems

Facilities equipment and handling practices

Recordkeeping regulations and livestock evaluation

  • Provide students with relevant and practical experiences using on-campus facilities college-owned livestock and regional agriculture partnerships.
  • Assist in developing and updating curriculum to reflect industry trends emerging technologies and workforce needs.
  • Participate in program and college-wide assessment and accreditation activities.
  • Advise and mentor students providing academic and career guidance.
  • Support recruitment efforts and maintain connections with industry professionals.
  • Maintain a safe and professional learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development and college committees as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

190 day contract with salary and benefits set by the Watertown School Board.
