Job Description

Underwriter
Location: Buffalo NY
Job Type: Full-Time


Our client a well-established insurance provider is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join their team. This is a full-time position based in Buffalo NY. The ideal candidate will play a key role in evaluating insurance applications assessing risk and ensuring sound underwriting decisions that align with company guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and evaluate applications for insurance coverage assessing risk eligibility based on company underwriting guidelines.
  • Analyze risk factors including experience loss potential and exposure to catastrophes.
  • Collaborate with agents and brokers via phone email and in-person meetings to provide quotes answer inquiries and assist with policy applications.
  • Utilize automated systems to process new and renewal policies endorsements and cancellations.
  • Conduct underwriting assessments for policy renewals and review supporting documentation as needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with agency partners through effective communication and marketing visits.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations company policies and underwriting best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Active Producers License required.
  • 3 years of experience in insurance underwriting or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles risk assessment and policy coverage forms.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Experience working with agency partners and maintaining strong business relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and underwriting software.
  • Professional insurance designations (e.g. CPCU) are a plus.
