The Opportunity

We are pursuing qualified candidates to fill Appraiser Assistant positions within Los Angeles Countys Assessors Office. The position assists professional appraisers by performing routine appraisal duties and the less complex on-site inspections of real and personal property for assessment purposes.

Requirements

Requirements to Qualify

Successfully completed 60 semester units or 90 quarter units in an accredited college* -AND-Successfully completed the California Property Taxation and Appraisal (CPTA)noncredit program at Rio Hondo College.**


Desirable Qualification

Completion of 6 semester or 9 quarter units of accounting.

**To verify that you completed the CPTA program we also need you to submit a copy of the officialLetter of Participation from Rio Hondo College.For additional information please see the Withhold Informationbelow.

Verification of both documents must be attached to your application or emailed to within seven (7) calendar days from the last day of filing.

Withhold Information

Applicants who are currently enrolled in the California Property Taxation and Appraisalnoncredit program at Rio Hondo College and expect to successfully complete ALL classes in the program BEFORE FEBRUARY 7 2026 may also apply for this exam. Applicants must submit proof of current enrollment either at the time of application filing or by sending it to within seven (7) calendar days to be invited to take the multiple choice and/or simulation assessments (please refer to Examination Content section for more details). Such candidates who achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on these assessments will be placed on WITHHOLD status until the official Letter of Participation is received and verified by our human resources unit. Candidates who fail to complete the California Property Taxation and Appraisal program and submit their Letter of Participation BEFORE FEBRUARY 7 2026will not be added to the eligible register.


Withhold applicants will be added to the hiring list (eligible register) once completion of the Selection Requirements is verified. Please refer to the Special Requirement Information section of this job posting for more information on the required supporting documentation to receive credit for any degree or completed college courses.


License

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.


Physical Class

Physical Class II - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

Examination Content:
This examination will consist of a multiple choice and/or simulation assessment worth 100%assessing:

Applicants must meet the Requirementsand achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the hiring list (eligible register).

Exam Review
These assessments fall under Civil Service Rule 7.19 which means you are not able to review the questions or your responses once you have completed the assessment.

Transfer of Test Responses
If you have taken identical components recently for other exams your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

Test Preparation

We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.



Eligibility and Vacancy Information

Candidates who passed the assessment are placed on a list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months. The list of successful candidates created from this exam will be used to fill vacancies in the Los Angeles County Assessors Office.
