Job Description

As Design Engineering Manager you will play a pivotal role within the Rail Design team; you will be responsible for leading engineering works estimations SME interfacing with customers engineering design resource management and development. Your creativity and technical experience is essential.

This role will lead Engineering works estimations SME interfacing with customers and lead a team of Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineers. Your role will be responsible for design overview compliance and approvals and associated localised engineering team governance and business interfaces.

You will lead prototyping testing and commissioning phases working closely with Customers Engineering Leadership and production teams to refine and optimise designs ensuring safety critical product reliability and performance.

In addition to product development you will be involved in project management activities; collaboration with cross-functional teams including software engineers mechanical engineers and project managers will be essential for seamless project execution.

In the area of procurement and supply chain management you will coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure the timely procurement of components and materials and assist in managing prototyping.

Customer support will be another essential aspect of your role; you will address customer inquiries and provide technical support where applicable to product orders and specifications.

Key Requirements:

  • Highly skilled in both Mechanical and Electrical functions - 18th edition(BS2391 - Electrical Inspection and Testing being desirable)

  • Quality focused preferably within the Rail Industry

  • Excellent knowledge of Rail safety

  • Sentinel Personal Track Safety (PTS) competent (or able to achieve it)

  • Excellent customer services skills supported by good commercial understanding

  • Experienced in bids and tenders

  • Self-Motivation: Demonstrate a strong drive to succeed and continuously improve within a fast paced and ever changing set of priorities

  • Team Player: Collaborate effectively with colleagues while also working autonomously

  • Passion for Development: Show enthusiasm for engineering and innovation both products and team members

  • Professional registration at Incorporated or Charted level

  • Personal Insight: Explain what makes you tick and how your interests align with this role.
