Job Description

The Central Sterile Assistant will be responsible for cleaning/disinfecting hospital and clinical equipment. Ensures that all instrumentation and equipment are properly inventoried and distributed throughout the organization. Assists with CS department projects to improve services and work environment. Works independently with little supervision. May have access to areas where medications are stored and/or prepared for purposes of fulfilling job duties. The CS Assistant will work primarily daylight shifts.

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred but not required.

Competencies Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently
  • SPM (Instrument Tracking System)

Essential Job Duties

Equipment Management: Operates/Delivers clinical equipment according to procedure including maintenance cleaning and record keeping for that equipment.

Clinical equipment processed are complete clean and without defects
Any clinical equipment found with defect is tagged appropriately and sent to Clinical Engineering
Records corresponding to the clinical equipment are kept up to date and accurate

Supply Management: Assists in maintaining inventory to allow for minimal interruptions of hospital functions

Maintains assigned isolation carts for cleanliness organization and restock
Maintains assigned OB instrument cart for restock
Relays instruments/gowns to all service areas within the hospital

Equipment Decontamination: Demonstrates understanding of the decontamination process of clinical equipment

Consistently follows infection control standards particularly those outlined in CS exposure control plan related to the use of personal protective equipment
Operates and troubleshoots cleaning clinical equipment
Demonstrates an understanding of contaminated vs. non-contaminated when handling clinical equipment
Identifies and appropriately disinfects clinical equipment
Places disinfected clinical equipment in appropriate clean storage
