Job Description

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is seeking a highly skilled Virtual Event Consultant to support the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) Data Learning and Communications Hub (the Hub). The Virtual Event Consultant will support the planning development and execution of a monthly virtual event series focused on global food security. The ideal independent consultant has a background with FEWS NET partners and activities deep experience in virtual event production and demonstrated success managing events that engage diverse global audiences. AIR will contract directly with the Independent Consultant under a consulting purchase order agreement.

This is a remote position. The Independent Consultant must be available for coordination with a U.S.-based team and support events timed for global audiences.

Scope of work includes:

The Virtual Event Consultant will ensure high-quality development and execution of monthly virtual events. The Independent Consultant will work closely with the Communications Team to ensure consistent accessible and effective monthly events in support of the FEWS NET mission. The responsibilities for the Independent Consultant position include:

  • Lead the end-to-end production of a monthly virtual event series from initial planning through live execution and post-event follow-up.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop event format timelines and technical requirements.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate platforms and tools (e.g. virtual event software simultaneous translation solutions) based on event needs budget and technical considerations.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and technical service providers to ensure high-quality accessible and smooth-running events.
  • Coordinate scheduling rehearsals and run-of-show documentation across multiple time zones.
  • Ensure all events are culturally sensitive and accessible to a diverse global audience.
  • Oversee post-event activities including feedback collection performance metrics tracking video and audio editing and content archiving or publication.

Anticipated Workload:

Up to 5 days (40 hours) per month depending on planning cycles and event frequency. Some flexibility will be required to accommodate different time zones.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree and 6 years of experience or Bachelors degree and 8 years of experience.
  • Past experience with the FEWS NET project and/or FEWS NET activities.
  • Extensive experience producing virtual events or live-streamed sessions for global audiences.
  • Familiarity with or direct experience in food security or international development sectors.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to assess select and implement appropriate virtual event technologies.
  • Proficiency in audio and video editing tools (e.g. Adobe Premiere Camtasia Audacity) to prepare virtual event recordings for distribution including light editing captioning and format conversion.
  • Experience coordinating events with a multilingual audience or those requiring interpretation is highly desirable but not required.
