Job Description

Position: Psychologist
Location: Correctional Facility in Vacaville California
Hourly Pay: $140.74 to $142.74
Contract Type: Full-time 6 to 9 months with eligibility for extension


Minimum Requirements

  • Twelve months of direct patient care experience in a public or private institution within the last three years
  • Active and current clinical competencies
  • Valid photo identification (Drivers License or Passport)
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Valid California Psychologist license (physical copy required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychological services under the direction of a Senior Psychologist or Chief of Mental Health
  • Maintain institutional order supervise inmate conduct and ensure safety within the facility
  • Serve as clinician-of-the-day as scheduled for urgent mental health needs
  • Collaborate effectively with staff across all classifications
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health evaluations including psychological criminal and substance use history
  • Deliver crisis interventions group therapy and individual face-to-face evaluations
  • Perform in-cell evaluations when needed which may involve climbing stairs or walking long distances
  • Diagnose psychiatric conditions and create appropriate treatment plans
  • Administer score and interpret psychological assessments
  • Produce clinical documentation including reports treatment plans and progress notes
  • Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IOTT) meetings and document all care activities
  • Monitor patient progress using SOAPE-formatted notes
  • Perform Mental Status Examinations (MSEs)
  • Review previous mental health legal and institutional records to inform diagnosis and care
  • Coordinate with approved community programs and service providers
  • Educate inmates on mental health topics and support their applications for benefits such as SSI
  • Gather and analyze audit-related data to ensure mental health program compliance
  • Share patient information with family or caregivers only with proper release documentation
  • Build therapeutic relationships to enhance care outcomes
  • Represent the mental health department at meetings and events
  • Contribute to new program development for treatment training or rehabilitation initiatives
