Job Description
The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University seeks a Part-Time Instructor of Music to teach up to three sections of MTC 247: Ear Training III 1 credit hour per section during the Fall 2025 semester. Sight singing melodies with chromatic alterations and modulation. Rhythmic reading and dictation with quintuplet and septuplet subdivisions. Melodic and harmonic dictation using secondary dominants altered chords and modulation. Responsibilities
Being present and instructing weekly class meetings during Spring semesters as indicated: Mon/Wed from 8:25 9:20 AM (M001). Teaching the third semester of a four-semester course sequence of sophomore ear training. Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. Preparing lectures projects or other student assignments. Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours. Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. Meeting all designated class periods. Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations. Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner. Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. Building a positive rapport with students and other addition: If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Master of Music (preferred) or demonstrable equivalent professional experience.
