Job Description

Upper School Psychologist/Counselor

The Episcopal Academy seeks a full-time Upper School Psychologist/Counselor to join our student support team. This role works collaboratively with another divisional counselor to support the emotional psychological and academic well-being of approximately 550 Upper School students. The psychologist/counselor will serve as a resource for students families and faculty providing preventative care responsive support and ongoing education around mental health and wellness.

You are someone who:

Direct Student Support

  • Promotes student success in the Upper School by providing preventative care and responsive support for emotional academic and social needs.
  • Provides short-term counseling and crisis intervention to students.
  • Offers appropriate referrals to outside providers and maintains collaborative communication as needed.

Collaboration with Faculty & Families

  • Establishes a visible and trusted presence among students families and faculty.
  • Serves as a liaison between EA families and external mental health professionals ensuring appropriate and timely referrals and communication.
  • Consults with faculty and advisors about student concerns and classroom practices.
  • Communicates regularly with Upper School administrators and the broader student support team.

Leadership & Training

  • Facilitates small-group faculty discussions or workshops on student well-being and mental health best practices.
  • Partners with Upper School leadership to develop wellness programming and initiatives.
  • Coordinates with the Middle and Lower School psychologists/counselors to ensure cohesive student support across divisions.

Qualifications

  • Hold an advanced degree (Masters PsyD or Ph.D.) in psychology school counseling or a related field.
  • Be licensed or certified in your area of expertise.
  • Experience and expertise working with upper school students.
  • Understanding of common diagnostic formulation and coding (DSM-5). Working understanding of current treatment approaches e.g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Preferred qualifications include prior experience in an independent school setting and 5 years of professional experience.
