Job Description

Position Overview:

Design West Technologies Inc. (DWT) is a small business and non-traditional aerospace and defense contractor located in Tustin California. We have an exciting opportunity to fill our open Manufacturing Manager position in DWTs Research Division. This individual will be responsible for all aspects of daily manufacturing operations supporting chemical biological radiological and nuclear (CBRN) defense combat weapons systems and other support systems for National security applications.

Key Job Duties:

  • Manage all aspects of the day-to-day manufacturing process including developing plans and work schedules for assigned work areas to achieve optimal utilization of all available resources.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly work environment leading safety compliance and continual improvement across the facility
  • Responsible for executing production schedules in accordance with customer and DWT schedules
  • Ensure properly staffed and skilled labor team to execute planned production schedule properly motivate staff while creating a positive work environment
  • Manage teams in assigned assembly areas by leading front level supervisors setting and managing team goals and objectives
  • Responsible for day-to-day personnel issues (interviewing hiring discipline absenteeism conflict resolution performance appraisals etc.) for all individuals in their production environment.
  • Provides training and guidance as required for personnel development and resolution of routine problems.
  • Manage production costs within budget while driving productivity improvement for labor and material usage
  • Coordinate with engineering and quality to provide sufficiently detailed work instructions
  • Drive standard processes across the operations team using standard work and tooling/fixturing
  • Anticipates production problems and proactively implements procedures to offset those risks
  • Proactively seeks assistance from appropriate support groups when production problems arise (i.e. quality problem material shortage equipment malfunction etc.)
  • Coordinate closely with support functions including Program Management Engineering HR Quality and Finance
  • Participate in Integrated Product Team (IPT) activities including cost proposal and capacity evaluation
  • Other job duties as assigned

Experience/Skills Requirements:

  • Desire 3-5 years of experience within manufacturing facility preferably aerospace/defense
  • Experience managing highly engineering projects
  • Possess excellent communication leadership and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence varied audiences to gain support or resolve issues.
  • Experience with ERP business system required
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and track performance to goals and objectives to complete complex or major projects and provide direction to the team at project milestones
  • Experience working within ISO9001/AS9100 business processes
  • This job requires extensive sitting or standing throughout the workday
  • Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR 120.15).
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint)
  • Proficient knowledge of Project management tools including use of scheduling and cost analysis tools
  • Strong written verbal and interpersonal communication skills for coordinating across teams
  • Excellent organizational time management leadership and decision-making skills

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in either Electrical Mechanical Chemical or similar Engineering function
