About the Role
RMIT is seeking a visionary and experienced executive to lead a newly created Health Safety & Risk function bringing together the Health & Safety Campus Security Risk Management and Critical Incident Management teams into a single aligned function within the Operations Portfolio.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer the Executive Director Health Safety & Risk will define and deliver an enterprise-wide strategy to strengthen RMITs safety culture optimise risk management and ensure compliance across its global operations.
This is a high-impact leadership role providing strategic advice to RMITs Executive and Council and leading a critical uplift in capability systems and cultural engagement across a workforce of more than 10000 staff and 96000 students.
The position will:
Lead the vision strategy and operational oversight of health safety risk and security functions across all RMIT locations.
Partner with RMITs Executive and leaders to embed health safety and risk at the centre of decision-making.
Drive cultural change to elevate safety and risk maturity across RMITs diverse operations.
Provide independent risk oversight and reporting to RMITs Audit & Risk Management Committee (ARMC).
Lead critical incident management capability and support effective emergency response operations.
Build and lead a high-performing integrated team fostering collaboration and delivering on RMITs Knowledge with Action Strategy.
This newly created role offers a rare opportunity to shape RMITs future approach to enterprise risk management and organisational safety performance.
About You
We are seeking a highly capable leader with deep expertise in health and safety along with a strong appreciation for and ideally experience leading enterprise risk management. You are a trusted executive advisor capable of engaging and influencing senior stakeholders including Boards and Executives while building trusted partnerships across a complex organisation.
You will bring:
Significant technical depth and leadership experience in Health & Safety from large complex organisations.
Strong understanding of health and safety legislation critical risk controls and risk frameworks.
Capability to effectively navigate a complex business unit and stakeholder environment gaining buy-in and driving cultural change.
A sound appreciation of enterprise risk with the capability to elevate the function to the next level.
Commercial acumen in decision making and advice supported by experience in analytics and planning governance and board reporting.
Ability to grow develop lead and structure a team aligned with strategic goals.
About the Operations Portfolio
The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences.
The portfolio incorporates the following functions: Data & Analytics Finance Information and Technology Services (ITS) Governance & Legal Office of the Chief Operating Officer (OCOO) People Function (HR) Property Services Group (PSG) and Enabling Services Reform (ESR).
The portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life across the globe. Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.
