Job Description

Location: Blackburn
Salary: SCHADS Level 4
Employment Type: Full-time 6-month contract (with a high potential to become permanent)

About the Role

Were seeking a passionate and experienced Housing Worker to join our client Salvation Army Housing Victoria (SAHV) in this role youll provide tenancy management and coordinate maintenance for both Transitional and Long-Term Housing properties. Youll work directly with tenants offering respectful and compassionate support to help them sustain tenancies build independence and feel a strong sense of safety dignity and community.

The Organisation

SAHV provides a range of housing options including Transitional Housing Long-Term Housing and Rooming House accommodation for individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. These services are underpinned by a commitment to dignity compassion and community. SAHV delivers both tenancy management and property maintenance services across its portfolio ensuring tenants are supported to maintain safe and stable housing.

As a Housing Worker youll be part of this values-driven organisation with a clear mission: to care for people build healthy communities and work for justice.

This is an initial 6-month full-time contract with the opportunity to transition to a permanent role as part of a longer term funding grant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage tenancies across transitional and long-term housing properties.
  • Respond to urgent housing needs and manage high-risk situations in line with policy.
  • Assess tenant needs and develop strategies to support housing stability.
  • Build respectful empowering relationships with tenants supporting them to connect with community services.
  • Ensure compliance with the Residential Tenancies Act and organisational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate tenant records and support grant application processes.
  • Contribute to team development service improvements and positive client outcomes.
About You

You are a committed and compassionate professional with:

  • Relevant qualifications (Associate Diploma or equivalent experience in housing community services or related field).
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
  • Strong knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and tenancy management processes.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours and respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • A collaborative ethical and person-centred approach to service delivery.
  • Excellent communication administration and problem-solving skills.

Youll also need:

A current National Police Check a valid Working with Children Check and a current Victorian drivers licence.
