ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)
The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) or the Texelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane in nearby Williams Lake BC and across the globe.

POSITION
The FireSmart program is a national program designed to reduce interface fire risk to BC the FireSmart program is administered by the Wildfire Management Branch of the Ministry of Forests Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development. Under the guidance of the Emergency Program & Fire Prevention Coordinator the FireSmart Technician is responsible for the facilitation of FireSmart-related activities within Williams Lake First Nation. The FireSmart Technician will promote FireSmart principles which include conducting hazard assessments of homes and properties and performing FireSmart treatments for certain buildings along with offering advice on ways to reduce fire risks and considering FireSmart standards when developing properties to reduce flammability. The position ensures that FireSmart activities are supported developed and implemented following Provincial guidelines and the direction and policy provided by the Williams Lake First Nation.
