The EHS Manager provides technical safety and health support including the development and implementation of programs and objectives and day-to-day hands-on support for environmental health and safety initiatives.
The position requires the candidate to spend extensive amount of time (70%) out in the plant.
Tate & Lyle will embark on a Journey to EHS Excellence (J2EE); a strategy developed for the next 3 5 years. The Site EHS Manager will drive and support initiatives in line with global Journey to EHS Excellence together with the sites leadership team to improve overall EHS performance of the facility. This individual will work on projects of varying scope that will encompass environmental regulatory fire safety/ergonomics and emergency response matters for the facility (total 300 employees and contractors).
Main accountabilities
Strategic:
- Develop an annual EHSQS Strategic Plan
- Analytical review of site data (Monthly and Annual)
- Understand Communicate and Monitor Priorities Goals and Objectives
- Incorporate cross-functional directives into EHSQS planning
- Share challenges and best practices within wider EHSQS community
- Provide understanding and translate the strategy to tactical decision at local level
Tactical:
- Engage influence & empower site leadership teams in the development and implementation of the Tate & Lyle EHSQS and the Journey to EHS Excellence
- Provide EHSQS Team structure with opportunities for involvement
- Own 1 or 2 Elements of the EHSQS System
- Active positive promotion and implementation of J2EE & EHSQS
- Empower EHSQS element owners;
- Compile internal audit schedule based on Tate & Lyle EHSQS system
Cultural:
- Drive Culture change and sustainability through J2EE implementation
- Build strong relationship on every level
- Organize cultural EHSQS events EHS Day Strategic Plan Launch EHSQS Element Owners/teams etc
- Perform periodic EHSQS cultural Pulses to gauge the EHSQS awareness and performance
- Frequent testing of the EHSQS communication plan
General:
- Champion / lead the overall site safety program.
- Develop and establish an effective safety program that will yield year-on-year reductions in incident rates.
- Work with site management and corporate safety to create/develop safety culture at all levels of the site organization.
- Provide technical assistance in helping with the resolution of safety issues
- Coach and assist Area Managers in the development of effective safety programs.
- Assist and participate with department and site-wide safety teams.
- Inspect audit and monitor equipment work areas and work practices and procedures for compliance with established health and safety rules and regulations.
- Assist in identifying preventing recommending control measures and eliminating safety hazards.
- Develop safety training policy development and safety promotion.
- Assist with new and modified processes/equipment/product development to ensure safety is included at all levels of design through implementation.
- Participate in safety & industrial hygiene reviews routine safety inspections and incident investigations making appropriate recommendations.
- Assist with the Contractor Safety program.
- Serve as the PSM Champion for the facility.
- Maintain accurate plant safety statistics and report timely to corporate safety
- Be part of the T&L Network Safety Committee and be the conduit for communication and information between the plant and the committee. Lead the roll out of new committee initiatives and the plant.
- Ability to focus on details and understand the overall impact of events and decisions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Strong Computer Skills (database word processing spreadsheet etc.) and able to analyze data for trends and accurate reporting.
- Ability to effectively motivate people and to enlist needed cooperation in implementing effective safety programs.

When determining final compensation we take into consideration: skillset job scope knowledge prior experience cost of living market data budget availability and other factors as permitted by law.
Starting pay for this position is between $ 115000-$165000 USD Annual

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to safely perform the following tasks:
- Work in elevated positions with hand tools and fall restraint equipment
- Ability to wear personnel protective equipment (PPE)
- Must be able to pass pulmonary test that is required prior to wearing breathing air mask
- Ability to perform work in confined spaces while wearing breathing PPE
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders (fixed/portable) with tools when safe to do so.
- Ability to work from heights and in cold and hot environments.
- Climb several flights of stairs several times a shift
- Stand for prolonged periods of time
- Bending and twisting motion at the waist and knees
- Ability to work a rotating shift schedule with flexibility to work alternate schedules as needed.

Skills and experience required
- Bachelors degree in related field CSP preferred.
- 5 to 10 years relevant experience in heavy manufacturing or construction environment.
