Job Description
The Senior Patent Agent I will assist LS businesses in patent portfolio development focusing on biochemistry chemistry and molecular biology technologies.
Seeking self-starter with innovative ideas interested in tech and business strategy alignment. Able to develop patent portfolio strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with in-house and outside patent counsel patent paralegals and USPTO patent examiners to prepare and prosecute high-quality commercially relevant patent applications.
- Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate searches to counsel R&D and business colleagues.
- Review publications and marketing materials as part of the Companys Promotional Review process.
- Engage in trade secret sensing and auditing activities.
Required Experience and Skills
- 5 years experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications with success at the USPTO. Must have detailed knowledge of USPTO procedures.
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience in biochemistry chemistry or related fields needed with a proven ability to comprehend draft and prosecute patent applications in these subject areas.
- Experience in biochemistry chemistry or molecular biology labs keeping current on life sciences techniques and knowledge of bioinformatics and AI are valuable.
- Proven ability to perform complex IP analyses including product clearances technology landscapes and prior art searches. Familiarity with patent searching databases and AI search tools desired.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with an ability to deliver engaging IP training to R&D and business colleagues are required.

- Demonstrated abilities to manage outside counsel work efficiently control costs and exercise sound business and legal judgment.

- Team oriented / strong interpersonal skills - must be comfortable working in dynamic and diverse multi-national teams with an ability to work and cooperate effectively with others.
- Effective communicator - ability to communicate efficiently across teams functions and global regions. Skilled trainer with the ability to clearly convey concepts in a retainable and engaging manner.
- Principled - possesses a strong sense of ethics and integrity
- Experience with IP Litigation is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position will depend on location and will be in the range of $150-165K.
This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company team and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
