A VehicleInventoryManager is responsible for controlling and tracking a dealerships vehicle stock from the moment cars arrive until they are sold. The manager keeps the lot organized makes sure every vehicle is frontline ready works with the service department to recondition used units and collaborates with sales staff to provide uptodate inventory information as well as maintaining our digital presence online. The role serves as a training ground for a future UsedCarManager. Used car managers at dealerships oversee the preowned inventory and sales team monitor profitability and sales goals establish employee protocols and ensure customer satisfaction. A motivated inventory manager can develop the leadership budgeting and sales skills needed to step into the used car manager role within three years.
Control the flow of vehicles manage the sales lot and backoverflow areas shuttle cars to vendors assist with dealer trades and ensure vehicles are aligned neatlyMaintain a presentable sales lot by keeping vehicles clean and frontline ready with accurate pricing stickers buyers guides and frame plates.
Check and log new arrivals record vehicle identification numbers (VINs) mileage and condition when vehicles arrive; update the inventory management system and keep fuel logs and other reports for management.
Prepare vehicles for sale coordinate with the detail and service departments to ensure timely reconditioning; verify that all safety inspections and emission requirements are met; ensure the proper merchandising of each unit (pricing options photos).
Manage paperwork and keys maintain complete files on each vehicle including titles purchase paperwork and buyer guides; control keys and keytrack systems.
Reconditioning and repairs schedule reconditioning work (body repairs mechanical work cleaning) with the service department and outside vendors monitor progress and ensure vehicles are ready within target time to line (e.g. 5-7 days).
Sales support provide sales staff and customers with accurate vehicle information including equipment mileage and pricing; update digital listings and photos; prepare vehicles for test drives.
Assist with acquisitions and trades support appraisers and the used car manager by identifying vehicles that fit the dealerships criteria; attend auctions or participate in online auctions; help with appraisals and valuations and coordinate dealer trades.
Inventory reporting prepare daily and weekly reports on inventory levels aging units timetoline and gross profit; analyze trends and recommend price adjustments or wholesale dispositions.
Regulatory compliance ensure all vehicles meet state and federal regulations (e.g. inspections emissions) and that titles and paperwork are processed accurately; maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
Highschool diploma or equivalent (associates or bachelors degree in business or automotive management preferred).
Preferably 2 years of automotive industry experience preferably in inventory management or dealership operations.
Valid drivers license with clean driving record; ability to drive manual and automatic transmissions.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
Proficiency with inventory management and dealership software; comfortable using spreadsheets and digital camera equipment.
Excellent communication and customerservice skills; ability to work cooperatively with service sales and finance departments.
Physically able to work outdoors in all seasons and lift/move items such as wheel chocks or battery chargers.
