CAHSS / School of Social and Political Science

Guaranteed Hours: minimum of 300 hours per academic year

Fixed-term: 31st December 2027

The Opportunity:

You will join theproject Situating International and Global Mathematics (SIGMA) to support analysis of archival records research databases and published materials; assist with the organisation and outputs of project workshops and other events; and contribute to the preparation of project publications and online resources

This vacancy is a student development post available only to matriculated postgraduate research students at the University of Edinburgh. The post is available from September 2025 until the programme end date of your PhD degree or 31 December 2027 whichever is earlier.

The post offers a minimum guarantee of 300 hours per academic year and the potential to work further hours as agreed with the Principal Investigator up to a maximum of 396 hours per year.

We are open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of off-campus working within the UK and regular on-campus working.

The salary for this post is 18.96 to 21.87 per hour depending on experience plus 18.1% in respect of annual leave.


Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Appropriate undergraduate degree in a field relevant to the research area with relevant postgraduate research experience.
  • Current matriculated postgraduate research student at the University of Edinburgh.
  • Experience in undertaking archive-driven research and analysis.
  • Demonstrated interest in twentieth-century international/global and scientific institutions and infrastructures.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills including time management and communication about progress and challenges in work.
