Job Description

Job Title: Clinical Pharmacist - Nuclear Medicine

Location: ATAMMC 9300 Dewitt Loop Fort Belvoir VA 22060

Work Schedule: Monday Friday; 8HRs Shift 40 hours/week (includes holidays and weekends if required by the department)

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Completion of an ASHP-accredited Nuclear Pharmacy residency program is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience in nuclear pharmacy practice within the past 5 calendar years. Must demonstrate proficiency in radiopharmaceutical preparation radiation safety and compliance with NRC and FDA regulations.
  • License/Certification: Licensed Pharmacist with Nuclear Pharmacy Certification in at least one U.S. state territory.; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen

Responsibilities:

  • Radiopharmaceutical Preparation & Quality Control Aseptically prepare and dispense sterile radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Calibrate doses and perform QC testing for purity and activity.
  • Operate and maintain isotope generators (e.g. Mo-99/Tc-99m).
  • Enforce compliance with NRC DOT and Army radiation regulations.
  • Maintain radiation exposure logs and apply ALARA principles.
  • Conduct area monitoring and equipment calibration.
  • Determine dosage and product selection in collaboration with physicians.
  • Review labs screen contraindications and educate patients.
  • Support non-imaging procedures like blood tagging and uptake testing.
  • Design and update SOPs for radiopharmaceutical formulation and use.
  • Prepare documentation for IND/NDA submissions and research protocols.
  • Oversee procurement inventory tracking and storage of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain readiness of equipment and supplies.
  • Train and supervise technologists residents and students.
  • Participate in internal audits and continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintain comprehensive records for regulatory compliance and operational reporting.
