Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist

Location: ATAMMC 9300 Dewitt Loop Fort Belvoir VA 22060

Work Schedule: Rotating 8 10 12 or 16-hour shifts; 24/7 coverage including weekends and holidays

Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography education program. Must provide transcript verifying completion.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of full-time ultrasound experience. At least 1 year of hands-on clinical application experience within the past 2 years in a hospital setting. Must demonstrate comfort with digital health record systems and basic computer use.
  • License/Certification:
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification
  • Unrestricted ultrasound license from a U.S. state territory D.C. Puerto Rico Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen

Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations for all eligible patients including active-duty military retirees and dependents.
  • Core scan types include Abdominal (complete RUQ abdominal wall); OB (1st trimester limited 2nd and 3rd trimester); Pelvic endovaginal; Aorta and iliac; Carotid Doppler; Lower and upper extremity venous Doppler for DVT; Testicular scrotal; Thyroid neck breast (if assigned to Mammography); Renal and bladder; Liver spleen gallbladder popliteal Superficial lesion evaluations
  • Operate ultrasound equipment independently optimizing technical settings such as gain depth Doppler angle and transducer selection.
  • Identify normal and abnormal anatomy accurately capture and label images take proper measurements and annotate studies per department protocols.
  • Communicate findings and consult patient history to ensure examination appropriateness and relevance to the referring providers clinical question.
  • Coordinate with radiologists and clinical staff adjust workflow based on clinical urgency and ensure timely completion of both STAT and routine exams.
  • Maintain accurate logs exam tracking sheets and documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system (e.g. MHS Genesis) and PACS.
  • Ensure exam rooms and equipment are clean stocked and ready and report any malfunctions or safety concerns.
  • Participate in department quality assurance (QA) initiatives complete all required hospital and Joint Commission (JC) training and follow infection control protocols (including high-level disinfection of probes).
  • Provide excellent patient care explain procedures clearly ensure patient comfort and safety and always maintain professionalism.
  • Support continuous clinic operations including managing patient schedules performing administrative duties and collaborating with part-time/PRN technologists.
  • Be available for on-call or emergency coverage and respond to schedule changes per mission needs with at least 60 days notice.
