Job Description

Retail Supervisor
Full-Time Non-Exempt


Basic Responsibilities:
The Retail Supervisor is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of the store in the managers absence. This position supervises the Retail Sales Associates on the floor and ensures that all customers receive efficient and courteous service. Incumbents are also responsible for proper merchandise display replenishing stock accurate pricing and keeping the sales area clean and orderly. This position reports to the Retail Manager.

Compensation:
starting at $18.00/hour commensurate with experience

Expected Hours:
40 hours/week including weekends

Essential Functions:
  • Assist the Retail Manager (and act in his/her place in their absence) to assume the professional floor management of the Retail Shop and seasonal sale locations. This would include scheduling daily assignment of floor sales staff.
  • Responsible for monitoring stock levels by supervising the Retail Sales Associates.
  • Display merchandise properly replenish stock constantly price items correctly and display all shop signs so that they are effective and orderly.
  • Oversee and order supplies when needed for the shops and make sure all sales areas are kept clean and orderly on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for the security of monies and following established procedures for end-of-day processing.
  • Remain alert to any vandalism or theft that may take place in the shop.
  • Operate the point of sale system when needed.
  • Assist in the annual retail inventory.
  • Assist as needed in any special sales either off-site or at Mount Vernon.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Retail and/or Retail Manager.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma. College degree and/or advanced coursework preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of retail management experience managing more than 10 people
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills are a must.
  • Must be dependable tactful and punctual.
  • Strong computer and point of sale skills required.
Work Environment:
This role is performed in a retail or gift shop setting and involves frequent interaction with the public. The work environment can be busy and fast-paced especially during peak visitor season mid-March - June. The noise level is generally moderate except during peak visitor season.

Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to stand for extended periods walk throughout the store and use their hands to handle merchandise operate a cash register and restock shelves. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds is required. Clear communication skills are essential.
