We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Director International Public Affairs Strategy.

Group Public Affairs (GPA) co-ordinates HSBCs work on public policy issues affecting the bank. GPA works closely with Global Businesses and Functions and supports the Group Chief Executive and Group Chairman and other senior executives as necessary. The postholder reports to the Group Head of Public Affairs and works in close partnership with colleagues across the function and the Group to track international political and policy developments and to help shape and execute strategic external engagement to build relationships support a joined-up approach across the Groups public affairs priorities promote understanding of the firm and manage risks to the firms business strategy. The role holder will promote HSBC as a valued interlocutor on policy issues and equip senior executives with messages and insights to enable them to represent HSBCs interests.

In this role you will:

  • Monitor track and identify international political and policy developments of relevance to the firm and provide insight and updates to internal stakeholders in coordination with relevant colleagues.
  • Work with colleagues across the Group Public Affairs team to ensure an effective and joined-up approach on key public affairs priorities across the Group.
  • Develop external engagement strategies including scripts and stakeholder targets to promote the interests of the firm with leading international politicians policy makers and thought leaders.
  • Develop and manage a strong internal and external network and work in partnership with colleagues in GPA and across the Group.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong understanding of current issues in international relations and their implications for multinational firms including financial services providers.
  • Insight into the political and policy environments in key markets including the US and China.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining a strong network of external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to distil complex information into clear succinct and accessible briefing and reporting for senior executives.
  • Experience of working within Government think tanks or economic consultancies or in a public affairs role in another multinational company.

This role is based in London on a hybrid basis.
