The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law preserve peace protect the people reduce fear and maintain order.
The primary goal of the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) is to assess department policies programs and practices to ensure they are fair impartial and transparent and to recommend ways to implement best practices within the department. Through data-driven evaluation innovative programming and stakeholder collaboration OEI champions inclusion and opportunities for all members of service.
The Military Liaison role serves as a strategic bridge between the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the Military and Veteran communities reporting directly to the Office of Equity and Inclusion. This position is dedicated to enhancing the Departments support of active-duty service members Reservists National Guard members Veterans and military members of all branches including their families. The duties and responsibilities of the Military Liaison will include but are not limited to:
- Serve as an advisor and key point of contact between the NYPD and Military/Veteran communities provide counseling and referrals to members of service and their family members.
- Identify and maintain new partnerships and opportunities that align with NYPDs goals for Veteran engagement and support. Providing recommendations regarding policies and procedures.
- Plan and coordinate recruiting events at military bases in collaboration with the Recruitment Section.
- Coordinate outreach events reintegration initiatives family-support programming and community engagement. This includes facilitating reintegration with members of service and their home units for returning deployed members of service.
- Fortifies collaboration by developing and sustaining partnerships with military organizations such as the American Legion NYC Police Post 460 Family Readiness Groups (FRG) Veteran Service Organizations (VSO) city and state agencies and the six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces: Army Marine Corps Navy Air Force Space Force and Coast Guard.
- Represent the NYPD at veteran-related events to include public forums interagency working groups and as ambassador to visiting military dignitaries.

Qualifications :
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in social work psychology counseling or a related field plus two years of full-time experience in counseling substance abuse counseling casework or employee assistance; or
A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus three years of full-time experience as described in 1 above; or
Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least a four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of counseling experience as described in 1 above.
