Job Description

Position Overview:

The Creative Minds International Public Charter School Behavior Coach facilitates positive and healthy student behavior and supports CMI teachers in applying proactive and positive social emotional and behavioral student support. The Behavior Coach is the first point of contact for behavioral support and for crisis intervention. The Coach reports to the school Principal.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports the implementation of the schools philosophy and vision based on various behavior philosophies such asConscious DisciplineRestorative Justice and other approaches..
  • Supports the implementation of school-wide positive behavioral supports.
  • Supports the creation of informal behavior plans for students.
  • Assists staff in defining and analyzing behavior understanding principles of reinforcement identifying antecedents teaching replacement behavior and implementing strategies for promoting positive behavior and identifying antecedents.
  • Facilitates team meetings with the identified students teachers and parents to plan positive behavioral support as needed.
  • Observes and provides coaching to teachers and/or the global school community on issues such as Tiers I-III behavioral strategies and crisis intervention best practices.
  • Creates opportunities that promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving as well as individual skills knowledge and understanding.
  • Assists students in assessing their work and behavior.
  • Provides recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
  • Leads professional development in collaboration with building administrators to promote positive student behavior.
  • Consistently model positive behavioral supports in classrooms and community spaces for staff and students.
  • Continually supervises students to ensure a safe non-threatening nurturing environment where students can thrive.
  • Conducts conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions.
  • Consults with the Student Wellness Team (SWT) related service providers and school administrators.
  • Collaborates with the IEP team to create behavior intervention plans for special education students with IEPs.
  • Be the first point of contact for parents of students engaged in any Tier I-III behaviors.
  • Actively tracks and updates appropriate behavior data tracking. This data will be used to identify areas for improvement and focus professional development efforts.
  • Manages students who are not picked up on-time from 4:00-5:00pm; calling families and adhering toLate Pickup Policy.
  • Attends professional development opportunities to maintain a high level of skill and knowledge of current research and practices.
  • Complies with all safety policies practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to the supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of incentives and student culture-related functions of the school (community meetings safety protocols etc.).
  • Responds to safety-related crises and provides thorough follow-up paired with detailed documentation of interventions.

Qualifications and Characteristics:

  • Deep understanding of CMIs unique model and inclusive education philosophy.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to supporting students to achieve and excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred candidates will have Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training.
  • Robust understanding of behavior intervention techniques and evidence-based practices especially those that align with Conscious Discipline and school-wide positive behavioral supports.
