Tutors within the Abington Public Schools work closely with general education and special education teachers in order to meet the needs of all students in a grade or classroom. The responsibilities of a Tutor may vary between grade and school building due to differences in students developmental levels. The most common responsibilities of a Tutor include the following:Serving as part of the schools intervention remedial and enrichment instruction to students based on assessment a teachers daily instructional plan and implementing differentiated instruction and clarification as the classroom teacher in responding to students behavioral physical and academic active awareness of students IEP and 504 arrangements and the educational impact of their accommodations and modifications to Special Education students on an as needed and gathering information about student progress to general and special education staff so that teachers may use this information to guide instruction and liaisons may use this information to track progress and adjust service daily building-based operations as assigned by the principal. Additionally Tutors are often tasked with the following:Tutors may be requested to implement short-term academic lessons in consultation with teaching educational activities and assessments on behalf of the classroom familiarity with the general education content in order to provide supplemental instruction to students who have missed substantial instruction.
