Description

The Mayo Clinic Digital Pathology (MCDP) is seeking a Digital Pathology Research Fellowto help advance the next generation of pathology practice. We are seeking an exceptional pathology-trained fellow who blends clinical expertise enthusiasm for AI and scientific curiosity with a desire for real-world impact.

Mayo Clinic has digitized over 15 million gigapixel digital pathology slides representing an incredible diversity of complex diseases of all types. This data is now helping to power fundamental advancements in digital pathology including the training of class-leading pathology foundation models and task-specific models that span pathology practice. At Mayo Clinic you will have access not only to pathology slide data but the full spectrum of multimodal and longitudinal clinical data needed to develop personalized diagnostic or predictive AI tools. As a member of the MCDP team you will contribute to foundational research in digital pathology and real-world translation. Your work will help to bring cutting edge innovations into clinical practice and build the foundations of the next wave of innovation in pathology.

What Youll Do

  • Assist in the development of impactful software tools and AI: Work with AI scienists and programmers to utilize your expertise in morphologic interpretation and pathology reporting to develop implement and evaluate vision and multimodal transformers and task-specific pathology models.
  • Lead ambitious research: Design and execute novel research projects in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of AI scientists data scientists and engineers and pathologists
  • Drive growth and visibility: Help shape the direction and culture of MCDP as a new and expanding team. Youll play a key role in our success through your pathology expertise publications and strategic promotion of our work.


Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.V.M. with residency training experience in Anatomic Pathology
  • Strong morphologic skills and understanding of pathology reporting standards
  • Familiarity with deep learning technologies (e.g. CNNs transformers)
  • Experience with Python and ML ecosystem skills (e.g. PyTorch scikit-learn etc.).
  • Skilled in writing and able to communicate complex scientific ideas clearly and compellingly.
  • Self-motivated execution-focused and intellectually independent.
  • Goal-oriented.
  • Comfortable working with real-world messy heterogeneous healthcare data.
  • A team player who thrives as a member of a highly functional cross-disciplinary team

Preferred Elements

  • B.S M.S. and/or PhD in Computer Science Biomedical Informatics Machine Learning Engineering Physics Medical Physics Applied Math Statistics or a related field.
  • Formal training in Clinical Informatics Bioinformatics or a related field
  • Prior experience with AI in healthcare settings.
  • Prior experience with digital pathology.
