Job Description

  • Join a skilled technical team that supports diverse disciplines like biology archaeology and environmental science through hands-on lab work fieldwork and research support.
  • Manage a team of technicians improve systems and processes and help create a safe efficient work environment across teaching and research activities.
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 2 years.
  • Base salary range: $116262 $127078 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

College Services provides academic administration and technical support services to the Universitys schools including Heads of School academic staff and research students. The team is committed to providing effective and efficient services in support of the Schools and Universitys strategic objectives with a focus on continuous improvement and best practice. Technical Services provides discipline specific applied knowledge and skill sets to support UWAs teaching and research goals in unison with our academic staff. This team of practitioners is focused on high performance outcomes compliance and contributing to a pragmatic safety culture via the implementation of safe systems of work. The team operates across a broad portfolio including teaching fieldwork support laboratory management instrument/equipment stewardship research training/design/optimisation and analysis program coordination and workshop design manufacture and repair.

This team underpins training and learning across the broad Field of Education of Natural Agricultural and Social Sciences and may include disciplines such as animal biology plant biology archaeology geography and the characterisation/analysis of environmental materials including the curation of associated resources. This team supports teaching both on and off campus which may include fieldwork.

About the opportunity

  • Operate independently under broad direction to deliver high-level discipline-specific technical expertise supporting academic staff technical teams and students in practical and research activities.
  • Lead a team of teaching technicians to ensure efficient high-quality operations within set timelines and budgets collaborating with Laboratory Supervisors Unit Coordinators and key stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Manager Training and Learning to create and enforce policies and procedures that promote safe and effective work environments across all technical activities.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Extensive experience engaging various internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to consult and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing spreadsheets databases email on online/internet-based systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant policies and procedures for the administration of infrastructure and Occupational Health & Safety

Note: The successful candidate must be physically capable of meeting the roles demands hold a current C Class manual drivers licence and be prepared for occasional travel after-hours or weekend work and potential tasks involving the handling or care of animals.
