You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailWisCARES is a non-profit that provides veterinary care and social services to low-income or homeless pet owners. We partner with the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine to train future veterinarians promote interdisciplinary relationships and offer subsidized veterinary and support services to low income or homeless individuals. You would be a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) responsible for: Overseeing high-quality animal care Participate in instruction of veterinary students and training veterinary technicians. Monitor and assist veterinary student participation with receiving daily schedules. Perform a variety of technical tasks including: Patient intake History taking/brief PE Blood draws Vaccine administration Dental cleanings and radiographs Anesthesia and surgical assisting Dispensing medication (writing and filling prescriptions) Laboratory tasks Client communication Keeping treatment areas clean For more information visit Responsibilities:
- 30% Prepares completes and documents basic technical animal care procedures assessments and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity
- 10% Assists with the execution of more complex animal care procedures and affiliated activities
- 10% Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing
- 10% Completes routine laboratory tests and collects specimen according to established medical orders and care plans
- 10% Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities
- 10% Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions
- 5% Monitors animal health status and records notifies veterinarian when status changes and ensures care plans are completed and recorded in the medical record
Unique Responsibilities:
- 5% Support DVM and other healthcare students who are volunteering or completing an educational rotation at WisCARES
- 5% Help train veterinary assistants and volunteers on tasks such as cleaning sorting laboratory work and basic animal holding/restraint skills.
- 5% Willingness to work with diverse clientele and familiarity using Fear Free techniques.
