Job Description

The Office of the Registrar an administrative service center for the University of Denver community takes an active role in assisting students and faculty with registration and advising by providing the tools needed to review academic progress create class schedules and successfully register for classes. Specialized services include but are not limited to registering for classes prompt transcript distribution degree evaluation and certification enrollment and degree verification classroom scheduling and withdrawal processing. We provide pertinent information regarding academic policy federal regulations and procedures as related to the procurement maintenance and release of educational records of our current and former students.

Position Summary

The Credential Evaluator advises transfer students and is responsible for transfer credit evaluations facilitating course credit equivalency requests and decisions. The Credential Evaluator maintains and publishes a public-facing database of course equivalencies for transfer and study abroad credit. This position serves as a liaison between the Office of Undergraduate Admission Office of International Education and the Office of Graduate Education. It reviews student files for all academic units (except Law and Taxation) and is responsible for their completeness and accuracy as well as accuracy of electronic records in the University student information system. Serves as state residency administrator. This position maintains formal articulation agreements for undergraduate programs and provides students with information on transfer and study abroad credit. A thorough understanding of the Universitys curriculum study abroad programs and institutional policies relating to transfer of credit are essential to this position.

Essential Functions

Transfer advising and evaluation (30%)

  • Advises students on transfer of credit.
  • Manage transfer and study abroad equivalency workflow and evaluate courses for transfer.
  • Works with academic units on transfer/study abroad coursework approvals when appropriate.
  • Provides students with information on policies related to study abroad and transfer equivalencies.
  • Provide guidelines on transfer credit equivalencies to Undergraduate Admission International Admission and the Bachelor of Arts Completion Program.

Course Equivalencies and Articulation (30%)

  • Compile transfer and study abroad course equivalency decisions and publish records to a public-facing database.
  • Maintain articulation agreements for selected undergraduate majors.
  • Maintain course equivalencies for credit by examination (e.g. advanced placement) and publish equivalencies.

Study Abroad and Exchange Enrollment Administration (20%)

  • Administer registration for study abroad and exchange programs at the graduate and undergraduate level.
  • Activities include establishing managing and maintaining study abroad courses in course catalog.
  • This position will also create sections in course schedule for each term; assign sections and batch register outgoing students; identify and solve problems provide registration reports and follow-up with Office of International Education staff; create and manage study abroad records in Academic History (Banner Student System).
  • Sets-up returning students to enable web registration.
  • Serves as liaison to the Office of Student Billing the Office of Financial Aid and the student in the case of erroneous billing or holds.
  • Convey information regarding registration status and issues via verbal and written correspondence.

Student Records Management (10%)

  • Manage the receipt of transcripts within the Office of the Registrar.
  • Process transcripts and other student records documents for admitted students in accordance with university record retention policies.
  • Administer and maintain holds on student records in accordance with university admission policies.
  • Determine residency classification for students.
  • Serves as the liaison between the Office of the Registrar and admission units.

Undergraduate Registration (10%)

  • Work collaboratively with other registrar staff and serve as a liaison to Undergraduate Admission to ensure records for incoming undergraduate students reflect accurate credit assessment.
  • Train undergraduate admission staff on transfer of credit practices and procedures.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of academic degree requirements various college calendars conversion of academic credits academic policies such as accreditation are important.
  • Incumbents must have or be able to acquire knowledge and expertise in evaluating educational credentials from foreign institutions. Knowledge of such policies at the University of Denver will be very helpful.
  • Ability to read analyze and interpret college catalogs and other university publications transcripts other application materials technical procedures or policy manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students University colleagues and the general public. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and other employees.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to make decisions according to rules regulations and procedures. Ability to make independent decisions in discretionary areas.
  • Ability to extract pertinent information from catalog descriptions and similar documents.
  • Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole number common fractions and decimals associated with credit evaluation converting of grading systems computing GPAs etc. Ability to compute rates ratios and percentages.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with students or employees of the University.
  • The employee must have the ability to access physical files from a variety of storage areas throughout the University.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum 1-year work experience in a related field

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions often occur and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

In accordance with the Universitys flexible work policy this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is 7.

Hourly Range

The hourly range for the position is $24.00-$25.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
