Major Gifts Associate Part-Time Overview: The 18-person Development Department comprises a comprehensive fundraising operation that includes individual and major gifts foundations and corporations events and stewardship direct marketing and membership. Mount Vernon raises approximately $20 million annually for unrestricted operating support and special initiatives all of which are part of the estates largest philanthropic campaign in its history Strengthening Our Foundations: The Campaign for Mount Vernon.
General Description: Working with a dynamic and collaborative development team the Major Gifts Associate will support efforts to secure designated and undesignated philanthropic gifts of $25000 and above to support Mount Vernons mission. The Associate will work directly with the frontline fundraising team providing critical support in a variety of areas including prospect research and strategy development portfolio management data maintenance regional travel preparation donor communications including direct phone and in-person donor contacts and stewardship. Currently undertaking a comprehensive $250M fundraising campaign Mount Vernon seeks a candidate who is driven to support major gifts fundraising efforts eager to integrate into a high-performing Development team and interested in gaining skills in a variety of facets of major gifts work. Compensation: starting at $20/hour Expected Hours: 24-30 hours/week
Essential Duties: - Oversee portfolio management processes including a twice-yearly review of donor caseloads with each Major Gift Officer.
- Conduct comprehensive research on identified major gifts prospects utilizing research platforms including DonorSearch Lexis Nexis and Relationship Science; and help identify new potential prospects for Mount Vernon.
- Update major gift donor and prospect records in the Tessitura database ensuring that planned solicitation strategies Gift Officer trip reports and all donor information is entered accurately.
- Assist with Gift Officer regional travel including helping to secure meetings with donors and prospects providing support on trip details and logistics and executing expense reports.
- Support the Gift Officer team with the mailing of proposals information packets and follow-up materials.
- Attend Mount Vernon Development and Major Gifts weekly team meetings as available.
Qualifications: - Interest in the development field with a preference for specific experience working on a development team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time excellent organizational skills and comfort in working in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communications skills with the ability to communicate directly with major gifts donors on the phone and in person while also working effectively with people throughout the Development Department and across the estate.
- Strong interest in the mission of Mount Vernon and an appreciation for the history and traditions of the Mount Vernon Ladies Association.
Work Environment: This position operates primarily in a professional office setting. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers and filing cabinets. The work environment is generally quiet with occasional interruptions. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods talk hear and use hands to type or handle objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Visual acuity to read and interpret documents and computer screens is required.
