Job Description

Who We Are:CAMBA is a community of staff volunteers clients donors neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development Family Support Job Training & Employment Support Services Health Housing and Legal Services. We reach almost 80000 individuals and families including almost 13000 serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBAS Food Programs made up of the Beyond Hunger Emergency Food Pantry and the NOEP Program work to ensure that no one in Brooklyn goes hungry. The Beyond Hunger Emergency Food Pantry in Partnership with a number of different government and private entities including the NYS Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) United Way of NYC (UWNYC) Food Bank of New York City Harvest and NYC Human Resource Administration (HRA) distributes a 3 day supply of 3 meals per day of nutritional food to CAMBA clients-as well as those referred to us by churches and other agencies due to hunger or lack of funds for adequate food purchase. Services also include food stamp screening application assistance and referrals for application assistance. Additionally the program brings in a number of different providers to provide information and referrals for nutritional education and support other benefits and services to help improve clients health maximize their household income and help them move toward greater self-sufficiency. The NOEP Program provides outreach to individuals and families who may be eligible for Food Stamps. Staff assists eligible persons in filling out their applications and provides referrals to other food and nutritional resources.

Position: Pantry Assistant

Reports To: Supervisor I

Location: 2241 Church Avenue Brooklyn NY 11226

What The Pantry Assistant Does:

  • Assist in all aspects of the distribution of nutritional food packages to eligible clients including but not limited to stocking shelves assisting with deliveries conducting intake and assessment assisting clients in shopping at the pantry etc.
  • Assist with management of stock room inventory.
  • Assist in food purchasing.
  • Assist with packaging food items.
  • Pick up food donations at a variety of locations.
  • Assist in all aspects of food drives.
  • Assist in all aspects of the produce link program (i.e. picking up and distributing vegetables).
  • Assist in all aspects of the Homebound Pantry program.
  • Assist with resource development and community relations.
  • Assist with Food Stamp application process (i.e. Eligibility pre-screening to potential eligible non-participating clients follow up to ensure that eligible clients receive Food Stamps etc).
  • Provide food stamp counseling/advocate to remove barriers to receiving Food Stamps as appropriate.
  • Attend trainings/meetings as requested.
  • Assist with collecting and inputting all necessary data and provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports to CAMBA management and/or funders.
  • Help to make the necessary referrals to clients requesting particular services (i.e. job placement programs WIC HEAP tax preparation assistance childcare and other food and nutritional services).
  • Light building maintenance i.e. fixing locks and minor repairs.
  • May assist clients with access to tax preparation assistance via the Tax Preparation Initiative through the Food Bank of NY.
  • May facilitate Food Stamps education workshops (i.e. eligibility requirements application process).
  • May create outreach and marketing materials for the program.
  • May help to break down boxes mop sweep dispose of trash and clean the bathroom.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • High School diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Data entry experience.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Bilingual Preferred.
  • Qualified driver Preferred.

If Driving:

  • Must have Valid New York State Drivers License and excellent driving history.
  • Must complete NYS Approved Defensive Driving Classes every 3 years.
  • Must take Refresher Computerized Defensive Driver class.
  • Must remain insurable based on CAMBAs point system throughout the duration of employment.
  • If required to drive 15 passenger van must score at least 80% on computerized 15 passenger van improvement test every year.
  • If required to drive 15 passenger van must pass an observed Van Road Test.
  • Acknowledge review of CAMBAs Transportation Policy

Compensation: $46000 annually
When salary ranges are listed the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and includes but is not limited to experience education budget and/or program size internal equity skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
