Senior SRE Engineer (Hybrid)

The Role

• Join the Fastmarkets Technology Team in Sofia Bulgaria as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to contribute to our established global team of SREs across Bulgaria the UK and the US. This full-time role based in our Sofia office focuses on leveraging advanced Kubernetes and Azure best practices to deliver resilient scalable solutions for our flagship digital platform which provides critical data news and analytics to customers in commodities markets including Metals Forest Products Agriculturals and energy transition.

  As an SRE you will report to the Head of Site Reliability Engineering and collaborate with Engineers Business Analysts Product Developers and Security specialists. You will tackle complex business challenges enhance customer experiences and drive operational excellence with a positive attitude and a commitment to eliminating technical debt. Our technical stack is Azure cloud-first and we use GitHub Enterprise for source control and CI/CD pipelines embracing cutting-edge technologies to drive innovation.

Principal Accountabilities

Infrastructure Management

• Design manage and optimize Azure cloud infrastructure using Azure best practices for scalability resilience and cost efficiency.
• Architect and maintain advanced Kubernetes clusters (e.g. Azure Kubernetes Service - AKS) for container orchestration ensuring high availability auto-scaling and fault tolerance.
• Implement and manage automated deployment pipelines using GitHub Enterprise for seamless secure software delivery.
• Deploy and configure the Grafana stack (e.g. Prometheus Grafana Loki) for monitoring and observability to ensure end-to-end visibility and optimal user experience.
• Manage development tools to support scalable reliable software development processes.

Collaboration and Leadership:

• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement sprint planning and retrospectives ensuring alignment with team and business goals.
• Contribute to architectural designs and technical documentation collaborating with stakeholders to create robust scalable solutions.
• Engage in team meetings stand-ups and cross-functional discussions across Bulgaria the UK and the US bringing innovative ideas and a positive attitude.
• Collaborate with engineers product teams and stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives fostering a culture of excellence.
• Document processes create user guides and share knowledge on integrated tools and scripts.
• Proactively identify and address technical debt advocating for improvements and modern methodologies in Kubernetes and Azure.

KNOWLEDGE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Advanced Kubernetes expertise: Proven experience designing deploying and managing production-grade Kubernetes clusters (e.g. AKS EKS or GKE) with knowledge of Helm and cluster autoscaling.

• Azure expertise: Deep understanding of Azure services (e.g. AKS Virtual Networks) and adherence to Azure Well-Architected Framework and best practices.

• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Terraform Ansible) for infrastructure as code.

• Solid understanding of DevOps principles with experience using GitHub Enterprise for source control and CI/CD pipelines.

• Knowledge of container technologies (e.g. Docker).

• Familiarity with networking concepts (e.g. TCP/IP DNS firewalls load balancing) and the Grafana stack (e.g. Prometheus Grafana Loki) for monitoring.

• Strong adherence to Agile methodology with experience in backlog refinement and creating architectural designs.

• Strong communication skills in English with the ability to write clear documentation and collaborate effectively across global teams.

• Positive attitude with a proactive drive to eliminate technical debt and a commitment to striving for excellence.

• Collaborative mindset and customer-focused approach with a passion for solving complex challenges.

Nice-to-Have:

• Strong Linux and Windows administration skills

• Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash PowerShell or Python

• Familiarity with cost optimization in Azure cloud environments

• Knowledge of chaos engineering principles for resilience testing

• Understanding of database administration (e.g. SQL NoSQL) in Azure

• Exposure to compliance frameworks like GDPR or SOC2

• Experience with Go programming language
