This position will report to Manager - Global Design Center and responsible for managing present reporting Team members in Global Design Center to deliver a wide range of Engineered-to-Order Mechanical Sealing design services to Global Engineering and various site technical offices as assigned.
Responsible for building and implementing QMS for Mechanical Sealing design engineering process auditing and ensure all Design teams follow the engineering process compliance to codes and standards adhere to the best engineering practices for safe & reliable product engineering.
Motivate and develop engineering teams and enable smooth operation of the business facilitating growth communication evaluation of their performance and enhance their skill matrix hiring of new employees & develop them on Wet Seal Design Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for leading team to deliver accurate and timely drawing design support for Global Engineering various site technical offices across countries and Customer Operations.
- Promote and be involved in maintaining strong communications between Design teams and Design Authorities.
- To define assign measure monitor analyze and report (SMART) performance and development objectives for self and direct reports.
- Handling operations concession / deviation requests through Prism / e-QMS.
- Handling e-QMS non-conformances within defined timeline.
- Measuring mentoring and evaluating performance of team resources.
- Manage strategic alignment of team resources to achieve workflow demand specific site design complexity and project priorities.
- Establish and maintain competency mapping and succession planning.
- Facilitating competence development programs for individual designers.
- Support Departmental / Global Engineering strategic initiatives as required.
- To execute quality checks and approve for General Arrangement and Manufacturing drawings.
- To attend technical discussions with EPC & OEMs when required by stake holders.
- To attend project kick off meetings discussions with respective stake holders.
- To assist in preparing Comments Resolution Sheet (CRS).
- Effective coordination with Project Delivery Office Projects Team and Central Expertise team.
- To handle projects and Customer queries.
- Technical discussions on design enhancements with Applications team.
- Primary point of contact for handling GCNs.
- To promote and ensure First Time Right culture throughout the Drawing Office activities.
- Should actively promote and contribute to Continuous Improvements in their day to day work.
- Ensure development of self and team members according to SES academy training opportunities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct leadership and management responsibility for team member.
- Conduct Performance and developmental reviews in timely manner for all direct reports.
- Set clear objectives and work priorities for assigned group.
- Responsible to attract retain and develop talent to meet short medium and long term needs of the team.
- Authorize competent designers for checking designs.
- Actively support change management to support business.
- Perform other duties as required in support of John Crane business objectives as set forth by Senior Management.
- Provide regular communications with team and updates to management.
- Conduct and support RCA on quality escapes & ensure effective corrective actions according to SCAT (Systematic cause analysis technique).
- Collaborate with peer level GDC leadership to share maximize utilization of total design resources & cross-team leveraging of best practices.
Qualifications :
- Diploma or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Senior Engineer within a technical design team in a fast-moving project driven work environment with job planning / checking.
- Must have demonstrated strong decision-making ability and strategic planning experience.
- Must have thorough understanding of John Crane drawing standards seal components global engineering processes fluid handling equipment design standards and process industry terminology.
- Must have proven track record of high quality in drawing checking for mechanical seal designs.
- Strong knowledge of Solid Edge 2D / 3D required Team Center (preferred).
- Strong fundamental knowledge on API 682 latest edition.
- Basic S-Select knowledge preferred.
- Excellent application knowledge of Fits and Tolerances and GD&T symbols in Design.
- Very good knowledge of iProjects and GCN procedures.
- Should possess good customer service and stake holder engagement skills.
- Requires a basic understanding of design for manufacturing principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel and across functional lines.
- Advanced English proficiency required.
- Must have effective people management and leadership skills.
- Requires excellent personal computing skills particularly competent in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read and interpret project requirements and documentation from a wide variety of customers.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required.
- Support safe workplace cultures and compliance with Smiths EH&S.
