The Splatsin are the most southern tribe of the Secwepemc Nation the largest Interior Salish speaking First Nation in Canada whose aboriginal territory stretches from the BC/Alberta border near the Yellowhead Pass to the plateau west of the Fraser River southeast to the Arrow Lakes and to the upper reaches of the Columbia River. Shihiya School is currently recruiting a Permanent Full -Time Teacher to join our team of professionals.
Position Purpose
Shihiya School is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Elementary School Teacher to teach grades
4-5. We strive to create an engaged student-centered classroom where students learn and thrive.
Position R equirements:
- Bachelors degree in education
- Valid BC Teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch
- Experience with Saxon Math DIBELS and Read Well Reading Program preferred
- Excellent classroom management skills based on respect relationships and realistic expectations
- Knowledge of First Peoples Principles of Learning
- Demonstrated ability to use a variety of current instructional strategies and assessment methods (e.g. differentiated instruction assessment for of and as learning backwards by design curriculum planning)
- Ability to recognize individual learning styles
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in the planning and delivery of Shihiyas goals
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills
- Discretion and respect for confidentiality
- Cultural sensitivity with experience in First Nations schools and communities is an asset
- Criminal record check with Vulnerable Sector search
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Cultural Safety Training
