Job Description

THE POSITION

Please note: this recruitment is for overnight shifts only. Overnight shift schedule is 10:30PM - 7:00AM.

We are actively recruiting for candidates to fillvariable hour Shelter Aide vacancies within Juvenile Services. The vacancies are within Harkins House Basic Residential Facility.

Shelter Aidesare an essential part of the team assisting in the oversight of routine activities of shelter residents and monitoring the safety and security of Harkins House juvenile shelter.These positions are overnight shifts 10:30pm - 7:00am up to 20-hours per week.

A successful candidatewill:
  • have availability to work overnight schedule from 10:30pm-7am.
  • be flexible.
  • work well within a team.
  • have an ability to work with adolescents involved within the juvenile system through a trauma-informed lens.
  • Be self-motivated.
Harkins Houseis a basic residential facility that is designed to provide residential care services based on an individuals needs. Harkins House serves youth 1217 years of age while providing individual and group skills training recreational activities counseling and the opportunity to participate in a culinary arts program. Youth in the program are pending alleged violations of the law or are on probation.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Duties may include:

  1. Oversees directs and monitors the routine activities of juvenile residents in a shelter care facility typically during overnight hours.
  2. Maintains the safety and security of the facility; ensures that the shelter facility rules and regulations are followed.
  3. Conducts searches and security checks of residents and facility and documents findings within accepted guidelines.
  4. Oversees food inventory laundering of linens and towels and completes other tasks as assigned.
  5. Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity equity and inclusion; and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
  6. Documents youth behaviors; records relevant observations regarding residents; reports problems encountered with residents; provides individual skill building; and reports emergencies to supervisor.
  7. Collects samples of urine for laboratory urinalysis testing purposes.
  8. Transports residents for medical treatment as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Additional Licenses Certificates Physical Abilities and Specialty Requirements
  • Possession of a drivers license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
  • Completion of a criminal history check in accordance with Oregon Administrative Rules.

Selection Process
1. An evaluation of training and experience of submitted application packets will be performed by Human Resources.

2. Our goal is to schedule oral panel interviews with candidates that successfully passed the HR Evaluation step as soon as positions are needed to be filled. Candidates will be contacted based on their selected schedule availability as it relates to the needs of the hiring department at that time.

3. Washington County will perform a DMV records and and background checks on the candidate(s) that successfully passes the oral panel interviews and is selected for the position(s).
