About the role
Are you a seasoned legal professional with a passion for energy regulation This is your chance to make a significant impact in a rapidly evolving industry. Youll work on high-profile projects to procure the services to ensure energy system security and reliability collaborate with top-tier professionals and drive regulatory strategies that shape the future of energy.
What you will be doing
- Providing trusted support to the General Counsel and Managing Counsel including guiding the business on emerging and cross-cutting legal issues and risks and continuous improvement of legal services.
- Procuring reserves and essential system services in accordance with the National Electricity Rules to maintain reliable and secure operation of the power system throughout the energy transition.
- Advising on the interpretation and application of energy regulatory instruments (such as energy laws rules and procedures) with particular focus on the National Electricity Law and Rules.
- Driving the legal aspects of regulatory change projects consistent with AEMOs statutory and regulatory obligations and strategies; drafting regulatory instruments.
- Building and maintaining a wide network of internal stakeholder relationships; being a trusted advisor to the business.
What you will bring to the role
- A background and substantial experience in advising on energy rules (electricity and/ or gas) or the equivalent in another highly regulated sector.
- A growth and change mindset with the capacity and adaptability to navigate the constantly changing energy sector and the associated changes to the law and rules as well as the ability to support colleagues across the business to do so.
- A hands on and practical approach proactive in working with clients and confident to make calls in real time.
- A team player who can quickly build strong working relationships with colleagues and clients and who is keen to share their learning to build capacity across the Legal Team and AEMO.
- Given this is a senior appointment you will be at least 5 years PQE and be eligible to practice law in an Australian jurisdiction.
