TITLE: Brief Counsellor
RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor
LOCATION: Barrie (165 Ferris Lane)
JOB NUMBER: BR-0725-T

HOURS OF WORK: 28 Hours Per Week
UNIONIZED POSITION: OPSEU Local #332
COMPENSATION: $35.40- $38.64 per hour
EFFECTIVE DATE: September 8th 2025
REASON FOR RECRUITMENT: Temporary Replacement
INTRODUCTION:
New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited childrens mental health agency providing a range of compassionate innovative and accessible services for children youth and their families throughout Simcoe County. New Path respectfully acknowledgeswe are situated on the traditional land of the Anishinaabeg People which includes the Odawa Ojibwe and Pottawatomi Nations collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Brief Counsellor provides shorter term individual and family counselling to children youth and their families using a brief model of intervention.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Assess the needs of children youth and families formulating treatment plans including goals and service strategies.
- Meet with clients and/or their families to provide support & counselling using evidence based/informed programs.
- Assist client(s) in making referrals to community resources as needed.
- Provide consultation to New Path Staff other agency personnel or the community.
- Function as a supportive member of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W)
- Minimum two years experience working with children youth and their families in a childrens mental health or related service
- Experience/training in Single Session Counselling
- Experience working with evidence based/informed programs

- Demonstrates strong engagement skills using a strengths-based approach and partners with client/family in treatment planning goal setting and anticipated outcomes.
- Recognizes initiates and adapts to changing conditions and situations in the workplace.
- Demonstrates awareness for the backgrounds values beliefs and traditions of staff clients families and communities we serve.
- Continuously assesses and challenges assumptions personal unconscious bias and commits to understanding diverse perspectives experiences and their intersectionality.
- Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge awareness and skills that contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for staff clients and families.
- Competency and effective use of database and Microsoft Office systems.
- Confident articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing.
- French language is an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Working hours are 11am to 7pm Monday through Thursday
- Willingness to travel to other agency offices and community using personal vehicle. Must have valid drivers license with minimum G2.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
