What youll be doing
The Senior Counsel Bank Act and Trust and Loan Companies Act role at CIBC will provide strategic advice and analysis relating to the Bank Act the Trust and Loan Companies Act and related financial sector statutes along with the associated regulations and guidance applicable to CIBC and its global business. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of legal issues and regulatory matters that are central to CIBCs strategy and operations including our advocacy and representation in industry consultations; the development of new products and initiatives; the assessment of permissible activities investments and transactions; and our participation in debt and equity financings. You will also advise on regulatory compliance and capital requirements.
Utilizing strong independent judgment broad-based legal knowledge and a high level of professionalism you will proactively collaborate with counsel across the CIBC Legal Department to translate legal and regulatory requirements and expectations into actionable business requirements to meet CIBCs objectives while reducing doing so you will be a key advisor to CIBCs business and infrastructure partners including CIBCs executive and senior leadership. This role reports to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel Personal Banking.

How youll succeed
Who You Are
You can demonstrate experience in and have a proven track record of providing excellent legal judgement and deliver legal advice in regards to the Bank Act and related statutes in transactions cross-border issues financings contract drafting and negotiations complex issues and mitigating legal and reputational risk. You have significant relevant experience gained at a bank or trust company a similar large organization or a top tier law firm with deep expertise and familiarity with the Bank Act the Trust and Loan Companies Act and regulators guidance regarding same.
Youre a certified professional. The Successful Candidate must have been called to the Bar in Ontario and be a member in good standing.
