Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for effective preventative and planned maintenance of site assets as well as troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems including but not limited to HVAC electrical plumbing refrigeration and carpentry at our venues. This position may work a planned assignment or be needed to respond to an emergency or call. With many facilities and all built in different time frames we are responsible for equipment from a variety of manufactures and even a variety of types. For exsmple the HVAC some buildings are on the Campus Chilled Water and steam loops some have chillers or Boilers and HW heaters and we have several split systems and small units for different spaces. As a result understanding how the systems generally work is likely more important than understanding a specific kind of unit.

This role pays an hourly rate of $18.50-$21.50

About the Venue

University of Houston Athletics venues include the Football Stadium (TDECU Stadium) Basketball Arena (Fertitta Center) Baseball Stadium (Schroeder Park and well as several other competition and training facilities. University of Houston is a member of the Big 12 Conference. The facilities include administrative training and competition functions and can host up to 40000 people in the stadium for Football Games and nearly 8000 for Basketball Games in the arena. Over 400 student athletes over 100 coaches and a couple of hundred support staff and administrative personnel use the venues for 12 months a year. Beginning in August we will open a state of the art Football Operations Center attached to the Football Stadium for the team. coaches and trainers to office and workout in year round.

Responsibilities

  • Assume management responsibility for all services and activities involved in the maintenance and operations of the venue including HVAC electrical mechanical plumbing chillers refrigeration ice making boilers and associated equipment.
  • Plan direct coordinate and review the work plan for facility maintenance and operations; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products methods and procedures.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Operation budget; forecast and additional funds needed for equipment materials and supplies.
  • Perform maintenance on electrical systems (replace light bulbs and receptacles etc.)
  • Conduct general upkeep procedures (i.e. landscaping) and other tasks as assigned (painting carpentry etc.)
  • Troubleshoot necessary repairs throughout facilities concession stands on equipment including but not limited to sinks ice machines general repairs etc.
  • Able to operate a forklift .
  • Ability to work from a scissor or snorkle lift.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal State and Local regulations.
  • Assist with other event and operational tasks as needed to help the overall success of the program.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office software general computer understanding of basic IT functions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have availability to work long hours nights weekends and holidays as needed
  • Solid problem solving skills
  • Possession of Universal CFC license preferred
  • Possession of Electrical License preferred
