Job Description

Basic Function

HF Sinclair is seeking a Process Engineer. This position conducts engineering duties for the Process Engineering department in direct support to operations and long-term site strategies. This position identifies problems and solutions utilizing company work processes and with fellow production team members. The Process engineer functions as a technologist providing H&MB Hydraulics Catalyst and other process technology specific insights. The successful candidate will join the Puget Sound Refinery Process Engineering Team and will be assigned to an operations support area based i on candidate experience and site need.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: (functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Provide process engineering support to ensure safe environmentally sound reliable and profitable operation of the units to which they are assigned.
  • Be a proactive participant in the Field Support Team (FST) working closely with Operations Maintenance Inspection and the other Engineering disciplines to ensure thorough and complete communication of process issues to the team.
  • Play an integral role in unit troubleshooting taking the lead when necessary to facilitate problem resolution when the problem encountered is technical in nature and requires a Process Engineers knowledge and expertise.
  • Identify opportunities to improve unit safety environmental performance reliability and profitability and prioritize and develop these opportunities through site work process including project idea submittals.
  • Participate as necessary in unit PHAs Bow Ties and Corrosion Control Document Reviews and lead discipline specific Management of Change (MOC) reviews.
  • Keep Tech and Ops Management apprised of problematic unit conditions and issues as they arise.
  • Utilize Risk-Based Decision-Making skills in prioritizing work and communicating incentives and constraints to Management and to the FST.
  • Maintain a Process Engineering Proactive Monitoring Workbook for each process area of responsibility.
  • Maintain proactive monitoring variables trends tools and overall unit proactive monitoring plan to facilitate the performance of the Ensure Safe Production (ESP) process.
  • Support training of operations on heat and material balances control of separation processes and other unit operations.
  • Expected to support abnormal situations and turnarounds which may require nights and extended durations within fatigue management plans for a 24x7 facility.

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

One to five years of progressive work experience in a process engineering field. An understanding of basic refinery processes utility systems and the elements of process safety. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Registration as a Professional Engineer preferred. Refinery or Petrochemical industry experience preferred. FCC CCR Alky Sulfur unit Delayed Coking Lubes Processing and hydrotreating experience is preferred for Chemical discipline.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering is required.

  • Working knowledge of engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others strong verbal communication skills and ability to simplify large amounts of data into compelling recommendations and visuals.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups throughout the refinery.
  • Strong interpersonal time-management and organizational skills.
  • Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge.
  • Ability to teach and mentor to diverse groups on a variety of discipline topics.
  • Knowledge of various process hazard analysis and root cause analysis methodologies.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

No direct supervision expected with this role. Ability to lead and influence others without formal authority is desired.

Work Conditions

Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required. Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures including outdoors.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing walking sitting talking or hearing making visual inspections making precise hand and finger movements lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs climbing up to 200 ft perceive color differences required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted) ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential (inability to maintain standard insurance rates is grounds for dismissal) valid State drivers license and proof of insurance required. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting stooping crouching kneeling reaching or grasping and working in confined spaces as permitted.

Salary Range: The salary range includes the minimum midpoint and maximum base salary values. A candidates offer can vary depending on differentiating factors including but not limited to education training or experience.

This position has a salary minimum of$73800.00 and maximum of $128400.00.
