Why your role matters

The Senior Change Manager is a strategic role within UNSWs Enterprise Data Office (EDO) responsible for driving both strategic and operational change in support of the Universitys data transformation agenda. The role is key to fostering a data-informed culture by leading initiatives that embed enterprise data platforms tools and practices.

This position oversees change communication and engagement across the EDO developing and executing strategies to support new data capabilities and BAU operations. Responsibilities include managing impact assessments stakeholder engagement communications training and benefits tracking to support University-wide adoption of new ways of working.

The Senior Change Manager will collaborate closely with project teams EDO leadership and stakeholders across UNSW to build awareness readiness and capability for change. The role ensures alignment between the data strategy and broader organisational priorities while managing risks and removing barriers to change.

Reporting to the Chief Data Officer the role may lead a small team focused on change communications and training.

About the Role

The successful applicant will be required to undertake and have experience in the following areas of expertise:

  • Lead the development and implementation of change management strategies and plans for enterprise data initiatives in alignment with the UNSW change management framework. This includes conducting change impact assessments to inform effective planning and delivery. This includes engagement and communication for the Enterprise Data office.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality change and communications outputs including stakeholder engagement strategies communication plans training programs and resistance management approaches tailored to the data transformation context.
  • Manage internal communications for the Enterprise Data Office including the development of newsletters announcements and updates to build awareness promote transparency and foster a data-informed culture across the University.
  • Identify assess and manage change-related risks associated with enterprise data initiatives ensuring mitigation strategies are in place to enable successful adoption.
  • Provide strategic leadership coaching and support to project teams business units and stakeholders to build internal capability and maturity in data-centric change and communication practices.
  • Support the design and transition to data-enabled operating models including the definition of new roles capabilities and the integration of changes into ongoing business operations.
  • Assess organisational readiness across academic and professional staff for enterprise data initiatives ensuring communication training and engagement activities are appropriately targeted and delivered.
  • Establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across faculties schools and portfolios to support the EDOs change and engagement objectives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Engagement Officer ensuring engagement strategies stakeholder interactions and communications align with EDO priorities and values.
  • Oversee the tracking reporting and continuous improvement of change initiatives including monitoring success metrics adoption levels and benefits realisation.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and operating rhythm of the Enterprise Data Office ensuring change and communication activities align with divisional priorities initiatives and timelines.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline. Higher education experience is desirable.
  • Proven experience delivering effective change management within large-scale programs particularly in complex or matrixed environments.
  • Strong leadership interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence coach and support teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience linking change management to project frameworks ensuring aligned planning and execution.
  • Ability to adapt to and operate effectively in dynamic or ambiguous environments with a strong focus on prioritisation and issue resolution.
  • Experience designing and applying tailored change management approaches to suit different stakeholder groups and program needs.
  • Understanding of the higher education sector (preferred but not essential).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to understand complex systems and develop practical change solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills particularly in writing for executive and governance-level audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively drive continuous improvement and proactively manage issues.
  • High-level organisational and time management skills capable of balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
