Job Title: RN Pre-Admission Testing/Pre-Anesthesia Testing
Registered nurse that assesses surgical patients prior to surgical date of service. Conducts assessments reviews medical histories and communicates with the anesthesia team to ensure safe anesthesia management and to make sure that all necessary preoperative requirements are met. The PAT RN educates patients about anesthesia risks procedural expectations and postoperative care.
- Conducts through nursing assessments including reviewing the patients medical history allergies and any medications or treatments they are currently undergoing.
- Assesses any anesthesia related concerns and addressed with the anesthesia team members.
- Reviews lab results imaging studies and other relevant diagnostic information to evaluate patient suitability for anesthesia.
- Educates patients about the anesthesia process what to expect before during and after the procedure.
- Discuss potential risks of anesthesia including complications specific to the patients medical condition.
- Provide preoperative instructions regarding fasting medications and what to bring to the surgical facility.
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers and surgeons to communicate any findings that may affect anesthesia planning.
- Documents patient medical history assessments findings and conversations held with the patient.
- Educate the patient on how to take prescribed medications before surgery.
- Ensure that all required preoperative testing (lab work EK etc.) is completed and reviewed prior to surgery.
- Coordinate with surgical team to ensure all clearance and paperwork are completed on time.
- Identify and report and concerns that could delay or cancel the surgery to the surgical and anesthesia team.
Education: RN License in the state of MI.
Licensure: BLS certified.
Experience: Relevant experience a plus. History of working in surgical setting or related specialty such as critical care perioperative or anesthesia.
Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain accuracy in patient documentation and assessment. Notifying the appropriate team members of any concerns.
Availability: Full time 5 days a week hours flexible.
