Job Description

Job Goal:

The Shift Leader is responsible for ensuring accurate training of operators equipping and empowering production staff to achieve on time shipments in a safe and efficient manner. The lead typically supervises the activity of 8-12 employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Start of Shift Meeting by assigning each operator to the presses they will be running by priority and complete Safety Talk.
  • Train and coach department employees towards Peak Performers including identifying needed training and reaching out to appropriate departments for training. Monitor and measure employee development and growth through performance management and development process.
  • Participate in selecting and hiring staff through job previews along with HR and other production leaders.
  • Handle employee scheduling including managing and reporting time off requests and approvals.
  • Effectively communicate with shift leaders on opposite shifts and within different departments about problems scheduling changes rush orders and any bad parts.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment. Identify needs for productions safety supplies and distribute them as needed. Tour the plant with leaders on opposite shifts for accountability of cleanliness.
  • Plan and staff the molding operation for your shift including workstation assignments/rotations vacations breaks and back-up plans for absent employees. Conduct Start of Shift meeting to relay issues that have arisen in the past shifts to employees.
  • Set clear expectations for acceptable production output and hold staff accountable.
  • Educate employees about the importance of correct tool usage and ensure all tools used on presses are company approved. This includes making sure the presses are up and making the product.
  • Ensure molds are set up correctly and rubber weight is accurate.
  • Correct manufacturing process when problems arise.
  • Complete rounds throughout the shift (four) to ensure
  • Operators are staying on trac with assigned goals
  • Operators are running according to procedure
  • Operators are making quality product
  • Product that is ran is correct according to job specifications
  • Operator is completing the correct paperwork
  • Operator is wearing PPE
  • Make sure raw materials are available to the operators and in the correct location
  • Make certain all needed materials (i.e. job travelers and procedures tools rubber metal ceramics tooling etc.) are available and correct and delivered in a timely manner to operators for production.
  • Ensure operators use proper material handling techniques and follow proper procedures for cleanliness of molds trimming parts and palletizing.
  • Complete necessary paperwork associated with incidents and accidents and alert Safety Coordinator.
  • On the last round of checking with each operator is:
  • Running according to the procedure
  • Palletizing parts correctly and parts/skids are labeled
  • Complete paperwork correctly
  • Track log
  • Reject forms (if needed)
  • Green tags are on finished skids
  • Consult with Custom Molding Manager or Plant Manager if problems persist.
  • QC checks and part labeling are your responsibility. You stop one hour prior to the end of your shift to verify all is correct.
  • Make sure raw materials are properly stored.
  • Effectively and efficiently run a press for 50% of the working shift.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience in a position demonstrating strong communication skills.
  • Must be available for overtime and work weekends when necessary.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment while in the plant.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Company policy requires the use of safety equipment including but not limited to safety glasses hearing protection protective sleeves cutting gloves and safety toe shoes.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • 3 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail .

Working Conditions:

The employee must have the ability to stand for up to 8 hours a day. The ability to lift 75 pounds is .

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position and hours of work. Some weekends evening hours night hours and call outs are sometimes necessary.
