Scope: The Sierra Club seeks a strategic collaborative and equity-focused Campaign Representative toadvance the Maryland Chapters work to reduce Marylands climate pollution in an equitable way with afocus on growing clean energy and building electrification. The Climate Campaign Representative willcoordinate across Sierra Club and with partners across Maryland to develop and implement local stateand regional strategies drive execution communicate priorities and benchmarks provide leadershippromote participation and report on campaign effectiveness.
Job activities include but are not limited to:
Leads the development of a strategic campaign plans - including goals strategies tactics and timelines - to promote the transition to clean energy in Maryland. Implements the state-level aspects of a strategic campaign. Manages implementation of strategic plan including coordinating national and chapter staff volunteers and allies. Reports on progress toward established goals and the effectiveness of campaign strategies. Key elements of the campaigns are likely to include state and local legislation state regulatory actions and actions to encourage responsible voluntary efforts by businesses and other important entities.
Implements Sierra Club best practices regarding the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizingand justice equity and inclusion practices and goals. Designs and implements campaignstrategies rooted in an equitable transition to clean energy.
Monitors evaluates and keeps Chapter informed about laws initiatives and new developmentsaffecting clean energy issues at the community state and national levels.
In collaboration with the team and external partners develops policy positions and advocatesbefore decision-makers. Cultivates productive relationships and represents the Sierra Club withkey decision-makers and coalitions. Provides technical policy guidance and support to staffvolunteers and partner organizations. Writes edits and reviews educational and advocacymaterials.
Works on task forces committees coalitions etc. representing the Clubs objective or mission.
Handles and supports miscellaneous events projects and duties as assigned by the Chapter Director and Deputy Director.
The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:
Experience in policy analysis and development of advocacy campaigns. Comfortable analyzingand communicating complex policy legislation and legal documents in the area of climate changeelectricity generation and distribution and building electrification. Foundational understanding in climate science and climate policy. Comfortable with the fundamentals of climate change science and common policyapproaches competent with the language and basics of the electricity sector. Skilled in quickly digestingand summarizing material and in communicating with technical and lay audiences.
Experience and skills managing meetings developing clear agendas and moving a group towardsequitable and time-bound decisions. Ability to proactively communicate to resolve tensions withina team. Demonstrated track record of communication in a timely respectful manner during times ofconflict and stress.
Demonstrated ability to work under their own initiative handle multiple assignmentssimultaneously and manage projects to completion.

Is aconsensus builder when possible and strives for transparent and equitable timebound processesthat arrive at strategic decisions.
Knowledge and advocacy experience in Maryland is a plus. This includes: knowledge of Marylandgeography and ecology; experience with advocacy campaigning and knowledge of Marylandadvocacy community; and familiarity with Maryland politics legislature and power structures.
Ability to serve as a thought leader on clean energy supply (solar wind etc.) distribution and use (the transition toward building electrification).
Ability to promote volunteer participation in campaign development and execution.
Ability to work effectively with legislators agency officials partner environmental and civic groups and the general public.
Working knowledge of Spanish is also a plus.
$65000 - $75000 a year
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $65000 - $75000 annually.
This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and Progressive Workers Union.

This is a category 4 exempt represented position.
